Purples Repeat as Region Champs

By Joe Brunk:

Over the past seven years, it’s been only Purples and Dragons coming out of the fourth region. That trend continues this year, as Bowling Green and Warren Central met for the fourth time this season in Diddle Arena Tuesday night. The Purples have won the last two match-ups, including a double digit win in the district championship. But those two wins would be forgotten if they come up one game short of Rupp Arena.

Central would get the first few points on the board, but Bowling Green would not go away. Purples scored the last 4 points of the opening act, and led 13-10. The Purples would stretch out their lead in the second, as the Dragons struggled from the field. Purples were up 24-16 at the break, behind the hot shooting of Tucker Sine, who had 12 points. Warren Central would notch a six point run to bring it close, as Savage started to get in a rhythm. But Bowling Green would never lose the lead, trading baskets down the stretch. The Dragons had a chance to drive and tie it up, but Kyran Jones came through with a huge block, and the Purples held on to a 46-43 win! Tucker Sine led the way with 16 points. Terry Taylor was named the player of the game with 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Bowling Green repeats as region champs for the first time since the 90-91 seasons (thanks to @warprodlive for that stat!) and will play next Thursday in the evening session in Rupp Arena! Join us for their run through Rupp on PurplesNation.com!
