The Purples began their run through the Sweet 16 by taking on Knott County Central. The Patriots arrived in Lexington from the 4th region, and advanced to the final four last year, with Camron Justice their leading scorer. Justice has been on the statewide radar for years, averaging 25 points per game this season.
A slow start to the game saw BG up 9-5 at the end of the first, but both teams began to pick it up after that. Bowling Green outpaced the Patriots in the second to take an 8 point lead to the half 32-24. After extending the lead to 10, Bowling Green racked up a lot of fouls, and Knott County began a comeback run. An Andrew Shrum buzzer beater tied things up after 3 quarters at 44. Then it was a back and forth affair in the fourth quarter until Bowling Green went on a seven point run to take the lead for good. Joe Ayers added a two handed slam to punctuate the game for the Purples. He also led BG with 14 points.
