For the third time this season, the Bowling Green Purples and Warren Central Dragons met on Saturday night at South Warren High School. After both teams demolished their foes in the district semifinals earlier in the week, fans came in ready for an exciting conclusion to the 14th district season.
It was a tale of 2 runs in the first quarter, as the Purples opened up with a 14-4 run. The Dragons would answer in kind with an 8-2 run to close out the period, and the Purples led by four early. But then the Purples would take off with a flurry of threes as they dominated the second quarter. The Purples D kept the Dragons to just two field goals in the period, and Bowling Green outscored Central 25-9 en route to a 41-21 lead at the break. Jacob Yates was a huge boost off the bench, knocking down two threes on his way to eight points.
Bowling Green would hit a wall to start the second half, going five and a half minutes without a basket in the third quarter. But Deangelo Wilson would step up and get a few quick baskets to lift the Purples. Warren Central was able to fight back into this game, drawing it back to a nine point game. But clutch shots from Wilson late carried the Purples to the finish line, a 67-56 victory!
