Wildcats drop home opener against Panthers

The Wildcats opened up their first home game of the season against Elizabethtown tonight in Brownsville. Fresh off of a 13-6 win over Taylor County last week in the Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville University. In the first half, the Panthers score on their first series of the game after a 15 yard pass reception from Hunter Sullivan to Peyton Payne. The extra point was no good. After a Wildcats punt, the Panthers moved the ball toward midfield. Tevin Lucas took the handoff from Sullivan 51 yards for the 2nd Panthers touchdown of the night. IMG_0531 (441x640)

The Wildcats got on the board with a touchdown from Jake Dial on a quarterback option from the 1 yard line. Extra point was good Wildcats trailed 12-7 with 6:22 left to go in the 2nd quarter. The Panthers connected on a screen pass to Peyton Payne for a 40 yard touchdown. Two point

Conversion was good. Elizabethtown lead at halftime 20-7.

In the second half, after a Wildcats punt, the Panthers scored on a 17 yard run by Berneil Cecil. Two point conversion was good. Panther lead 28-7 after 3 quarters of play.

The only score of the 4th quarter came on a 6 yard pass from Hunter Sullivan to Tevin Lucas. The extra point was good.

The final score from Brownsville, Elizabethtown 35 Edmonson County 7. Although the Wildcats were handed their first loss of the season, Coach Pierce was pleased at how the Wildcats maintained their composure, and finished the game playing as aggressively as they started it.

The Wildcats will host the Grayson County Cougars next Friday night in Brownsville. According to Coach Kyle Pierce, the Wildcats will face one of the better teams that Grayson County has put together in some time. They are returning 22 seniors this year.
