Raiders Drop Double Header to the Torjans

By Josh Holland:

Barren County Lady Trojans 47
Warren East Lady Raiders 41

The Lady Trojans (5-10) started off on a hot streak behind center Reanna Poynter. She scored four of the first
six Lady Trojan points and finished the first half with a team-high eight.
The Lady Raiders saw Poynter and raised her Brooklyn Gilbert. Gilbert had three of the first five points for East ending the first
two quarters with a game-high nine. After trailing 10-5 at the end of one, East went on a 7-2 run to tie up the game behind a three-ball from
Erin Houchins and a jumper off of the dribble from Sarah Peters. From there, the teams traded baskets leading to a Lady Trojan 23-21
halftime advantage.

East struggled to start the second half, not scoring in the first four minutes of play. Barren County capitalized and jumped out to
a seven point lead. Lady Trojan leading scorer Deanie Pedigo controlled the second half hitting two three-pointers and ending with
a game-high 17 points.

The Lady Raiders made a push in the middle of the fourth down 12. They cut the lead as low as five with their full-court press defense
and a timely three from Erin Houchins. But that is as close as East would get. Barren County extended their advantage back
out to double-digits and weathered a late Lady Raider storm to win by six. Houchins and Gilbert each ended the game with 11, tied for
the team high for East.

In the back half of the double header, East and Barren traded baskets with the Trojans relying on scoring from Nick Mabe and
Gavin Driver while East spread the love with four of their five starters scoring in the first quarter.
Kaleb Britt helped East out to a 23-19 lead early in the second period, hitting a three-pointer and dishing the ball off down low to
Dylan Gaines and Antwan Gilbert who finished the first half with six and seven points respectively.

Barren County came back with six unadnswered and held the lead for the bulk of the second period. They did much of their damage off of the dribble behind point guard Nick Mabe and junior forward Wade Coomer who each had 11
going into the break. Coomer hit a three at the buzzer to push the Trojans’ halftime lead out to 36-28.

East started off the second half on an 18-8 run to gain a two point lead. Gilbert and Britt once again spearheaded the effort with Britt
dumping it off to Eli Brown and Trae Cardwell for back-to-back and-one opportunities. Dylan Whitney also provedpivotal to the run as he scored
eight point in the third quarter.

After trailing 56-52, Barren went on a 7-0 run including a three ball from Jared Coomer to take their first lead of the fourth quarter.
East responded and traded buckets with the Trojans until the final moments.

Barren held possession with a 69-68 lead and 29.3 seconds on the clock when Nick Mabe drove to his right and was called for a charging foul under the basket.
Mabe tied for a game-high 17 points with teammate Wade Coomer.
On the opposite end of the court, Kaleb Britt missed a floater and the Raider fouled Mabe on the Rebound with 13.3 left.
Mabe missed the front end of the one-and-one giving East another shot.

Coming out of the timeout with under ten on the clock, Britt swung
the ball to Dylan Whitney on the right but he was swarmed by the top of the Trojan 2-3 zone. Whitney skipped it left side to Gilbert whose
three at the buzzer fell short. Gilbert finished with 13 and Britt lead all Raiders with 16 and added three assists.

Warren East falls to 9-7 on the season and looks for their second district win on Friday at Greenwood.
