Warren East hosted Cumberland County for a region double header matchup before getting back to district play on Friday.
Lady Panthers: 58
Lady Raiders: 48
The Lady Raiders offense couldn’t get anything going in the first half outside of a few Summer Glass layins and a three by Sarah Peters.
Erin Houchins struggled to find range, missing three consecutive shots off of the inside of the rim.
On the flip side, Kayla Waid lead the Lady Panthers in scoring and outscored the Lady Raiders by herself, 17-13, in the first two periods.
Waid made her mark by driving to the right side of the paint and making good use of the backboard.
In the second half, Kaylee Stalcup took over in the early part scoring Kaylee Stalcup who had nine in the quarter.
Saraha Peters tried to combat that with three long balls in the third period and one in the fourth but the late threes weren’t enough
to get the final lead below double digits. Erin Houchins and Caylin Howard also added triples in the second half.
Warren East (7-14) returns to action Friday night at home against Warren Central.
Raiders: 75
Panthers: 43
Coming off of what coach Brandon Combs called one of his team’s best practices of the season, his team performed against the winless Panthers.
East started the game on a 24-3 run. East threw athlete after athlete against and undersized Cumberland team and used the fast-break and the
combo of Kaleb Britt and Antwan Gilbert to gain that lead. Britt ended the first half as the leading scorer with 12 and Gilbert added
six.
Cumberland County found more offensive success in the second quarter, scoring 17 points after ending the first with three, but remained unable
to stop East. The reserves Raiders came in and expanded the lead to 45-20 behind seven bench points from Khalil Britt.
With the starters back in to start the third, Warren East expanded the lead to as many as 34. Dylan Gaines scored eight points in the third
and ended the game with 13. Two of those points made more noise than the others as Gaines took the ball on the fast break, rose, and
got to know the rim with the left hand.
East coasted to a 75-43 victory and finished the contest with four scorers tallying seven or more points.
Warren East (10-10) hosts Warren Central on Friday.
