Sarah Beth Hale scored 30 points, Paige Vanzant finished with 11 and Kennedy Nichols recorded a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Logan County girls’ basketball team to a 74-60 win over Metcalfe County on Tuesday night in the Region 4 Tournament quarterfinals at E.A. Diddle Arena.
The Lady Cougars – now 22-10 on the season – led 11-9 after the opening quarter before outscoring the Lady Hornets 24-16 in the second to build a 35-25 lead at halftime. LCHS extended its advantage to 48-36 after three and maintained a lead throughout the final period to come out on top and extend its season.
“I thought my team wanted to win,” Logan County coach Finley Baird said. “They went out there and executed like they were supposed to and like we gave the scouting report. They did what was asked of them. They wanted to win, so they went out there and did what it took to win that ballgame.”
With the Lady Cougars’ victory, they’ll now play Barren County in Monday’s 6 p.m. semifinal.
Kaylee Harbison led Metcalfe County (22-9) with 17 points in its season-ending defeat.
“I thought we played really hard,” Metcalfe County coach Josh Hurt said. “Logan County played exceptionally well. Hale was tremendous. Sometimes when you go out there and play the way you want to play, the matchups sometimes go in your favor and sometimes they don’t. I thought our whole team went out and played well.
