REGION TENNIS TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

                                                     REGION TENNIS TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

The Region Tennis Tournament kicks off starting tomorrow at Freeman Lake Tennis Courts in Elizabethtown Kentucky and there is a pretty good chance that should be plenty of surprises in the four (possible five day) affair depending on the weather and the competition.

BOYS SINGLES : For sure in the Boys Singles as Elizabethtown’s senior Kent Smith won the Conference Title last month and actually finished as runner-up last season against eventual champion and teammate Ameer Haider. this time around the field should be a bit different with Haider gone, but he could still contend against teammate freshman Matthew Smith, who he faced and defeated in the Conference Final 6-1, 7-5.

BOYS DOUBLES : There will be a different group in the finals this season as both doubles teams are graduated from last season. Central Hardin’s Trevin Cox, who played and won the Double’s Title twice in succession, but with different partners (last season it was exchange student Arthur Pelissier) is no longer there and it was Elizabethtown’s Patrick Lawson and Jared Towell, who won the double’s competition last April.

GIRLS SINGLES : After winning the Region Title in both her freshman and Sophomore seasons. Laura Hinkle dropped both the Conference Title and the Region Title in 2017, last season losing to eventual Champion Hannah Lowman in the semi-finals. This time around the senior came in very focused and took the Conference Title against North Hardin’s Addison Sutton and will most likely be the Top Seed tomorrow at Freeman Lake. With the defending champion graduated, it should be up for grabs with both senior Hinkle and sophomore Sutton on fire.

GIRLS DOUBLES : It was a BLUE WEDNESDAY last season in the Region Final with both North Hardin No.1 and No.2 Doubles teams squaring off. In that one, top-seeded Allie Sutton and Alyssa Dowell took the Championship from teammates Lesleigh Lowman and Karina Carrasquillo. However, the two runner-ups turned the tables on their Champion couterparts by beating them in the Conference Finals last April. That should be quite a rematch if the two duos should both reach the Finals and add another chapter to the intra squad rivalry.
