No. 1 Barren County Vs No. 4 Glasgow –
Barren County punched their ticket to their sixth consecutive 15th District Championship in impressive fashion on Tuesday night, earning their 10th straight victory over Glasgow in a 65-39 victory.
With both teams struggling to get on their feet on their feet in the first few minutes, the Trojans exploded to go on a 25-8 run to blow open a 32-13 halftime lead, largely in part to Brando Reed, who outscored Glasgow’s entire team with 14 first-half points.
It seemed that Glasgow (4-24) would fight back and make it a close game after the half, as the Scotties opened the third quarter with an 11-4 run to cut Barren County’s lead to 36-24 with 3:45 remaining in the period. However, the Trojans slammed the door by scoring 19 straight points to take a 55-24 lead with 6:06 remaining in the game. Glasgow would find no answer for Barren (17-14) there on out.
Reed scored 18 points to lead the Trojans while Will Bandy added 15 and Jared Coomer netted 11. Ben Hughes carried the Scotties with 26 points.
No. 2 Monroe County Vs No. 3 Allen County-Scottsville –
After splitting a pair of games in the regular season, Monroe County was able to get the best of Allen County-Scottsville as the Falcons surged to a 59-47 victory late in a defensive slugfest.
Looking to spark the Patriots, Kerby Carver scored nine of his 11 first-half points in the first quarter as ACS held a 14-13 lead at the end of the period. Both teams continued to trade baskets and defensive punches in the second quarter as the Falcons (16-12) went into the half with a 25-24 advantage.
Looking to find a consistent rhythm leading 41-38 after the third quarter, Monroe guard Tyrek Mink sunk an amazing and-one layup while falling to the ground to spark a 13-3 run to put the Falcons up 54-42 with 3:13 remaining in the game.
After cutting the lead to 55-47 with 1:13 left in the game, it seemed that the Falcons would let ACS (10-19) back in the game after going 5-13 from the free throw line in the last 1:43 of the contest. However, multiple passes were picked by Monroe which provided them with easy transition fouls to seal a win.
Billy Michael Dyer, the 15th District’s leading scorer, led Monroe County with 12 points. Tucker Kirkpatrick came off the bench to score 12 for the Falcons. Carver carried Allen County-Scottsville’s workload by netting 16 points in his final game as a Patriot.
Monroe County and Barren County will meet for the Boys 15th District Championship at 7:00 on Friday night at Barren County High School.
