ROUNDUP | District 14 Hoops Tournaments – Tues., Feb. 21

No. 1 Bowling Green vs. No. 4 Warren East —

Deangelo Wilson scored 13 points – all in the first half – while Terry Taylor dropped 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Bowling Green’s boys’ basketball team to a dominating 83-35 victory over Warren East in the semifinals of the District 14 Tournament on Monday night at Warren Central High School.

The Purples (28-2) showed that they were worthy of their top seed in the tournament and led from start to finish, never allowing the Raiders (13-16) to get into any type of rhythm.

In its loss, Warren East was led by Tashawn Neal, who finished with 9 points – all off of three-made corner three-pointers.

Bowling Green, with its win, advances to the championship game on Friday at 6:30 p.m., where it’ll face the winner of No. 2 Greenwood and No. 3 Warren Central.

BG came out of the gates fired up and kept that same mentality throughout the entire contest.

At the 3:44 mark of the opening quarter, the Purples were already out to a 14-2 lead. The advantage grew to 19-5 after eight total minutes of play.

Leading by 14, Bowling Green went on to outscore East 26-14 in the second and held a 45-19 lead at halftime. At the break, Wilson had tallied his 13 points while Jarius Key had 10 for the Purples. Neal already had the nine points he scored after two periods.

The Raiders scored just seven points in the third compared to Bowling Green’s 17 and trailed by 36 at 62-26 heading into the final quarter. The Purples went on to outscore East 19-9 in the fourth and recorded their 46th-straight win over their longtime opponent.

No. 1 South Warren 61, No. 4 Warren Central 34 (girls) —

Jordan McDonald scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to help South Warren’s girls’ basketball team knock off Warren Central, 61-34, in the semifinals of the District 14 Tournament on Tuesday night at Warren Central High School.

The Spartans (20-8) had to hold off a handful of Lady Dragons (13-17) runs before being able to play their style of basketball throughout the remainder of the affair.

In its loss, Warren Central was led by Zakoria Hill, who finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

South Warren, with its win, advances to the championship game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., where it’ll meet the winner of No. 2 Bowling Green and No. 3 Greenwood.

The two sides exchanged baskets all throughout the opening quarter.

After the first, South Warren held a slim 12-10 lead over Warren Central, as the Lady Dragons’ Tiffany Taylor led all scorers with 6 points early.

Leading by just two, the Spartans opened the ensuing period on a 7-0 run and took a 19-10 lead at the 3:45 mark of the second. South went on to outscore Central 18-4 throughout the remainder of the quarter and were up 37-14 heading into the locker room at halftime.

After two full periods of action, McDonald led South Warren with 14 points while Hill had 8 for the Lady Dragons.

Only 17 total points would be added to the scoreboard in the third, as the Spartans held a 47-21 advantage entering the final eight minutes. Warren Central would show a lot of heart in the fourth – as it scored 13 points – but it wouldn’t be enough to make a comeback of South Warren – who advanced to the district title game for a fourth-straight year.
