Russell County beats Glasgow, heads to Region 4 semis

For the third consecutive season, Russell County will play in the regional semifinals.

The Lakers – champions of District 16 – opened play in the Region 4 Baseball Tournament with a 7-5 quarterfinal win over District 15 runner-up Glasgow on Monday at Nick Denes Field.

Russell County (26-8) finished with eight hits and put together a four-run second and three-run fifth to build a lead and was able to maintain it throughout the remainder of the game.

Glasgow (16-17) had multiple chances to jump in front of the Lakers – and even got within 4-3 in the top of the fifth – but committed a couple of unforced errors to end its threats and ultimately fell short.

RCHS will meet the Bowling Green-Logan County winner in Tuesday’s 7:15 p.m. semifinal.

GHS –    0 0 1 0 2 0 2 – 5

RCHS –  0 4 0 0 3 0 X – 7
