It wasn’t as easy as some expected, but the scoreboard in the end still reads the same: Dragons win, Dragons are 5-1 on the season. It started perfectly for Central as Shanklin ran another one in, displaying highlight reel moves, from 50 yards out. Tyson Bledsoe blocked a punt and ran it in for Central, then LaDarius Mitchell caught one from 33 yards and it was a 19-8 ball game.
In the second quarter, Greenwood freshman quarterback Jackson Adams started running the option effectively, chewing up yards himself both through the air on the ground and scoring himself to conclude an 80 yard drive. Central’s offense turned the ball over on downs late in the half, then both Shanklin and Adams threw late interceptions but neither team capitalized and it was 25-15 at the half.
In the second half, the defenses took over, particularly Warren Central’s leading tackler Peyton Donisi, who in similar fashion to what he’s done over the past few games, has taken over a football game in the latter stages.
Chance Shanklin would connect with Jensen Feggins from 13 yards and then Tristen Murray on a 67 yard flare to push the lead and help finish it off. He had five total touchdowns on the night, three through the air and two on the ground. 39-21 was the final from Greenwood and the Dragons know the schedule picks up from here.
It’s Owensboro and Bowling Green in back to back weeks at home and after a trip to Logan County, Highlands comes to town as Jensen Feggins sees his old teammates as adversaries rather than friends.
Coverage of Warren Central and Owensboro begins at 6:50 CT next Friday from WCHS.
