South Warren seeks revenge on Franklin-Simpson

South Warren and Franklin-Simpson met twice on the gridiron last season, the Wildcats besting the Spartans in both meetings. Franklin-Simpson also ended South Warren’s season with a 33-16 victory in the third round of the Class 4A Playoffs.

Coach Brandon Smith and company will have a chance to avenge those two losses, the Spartans playing their former 4A district rival from down 31-W at Warren East High School on Saturday morning.

“We’ve been waiting for this game for a long time, said junior defensive lineman Jacob Lacey. They knocked us off twice last year, we’re going to be ready to play and prepare hard (at practice).”

Franklin-Simpson is good as they always are, said South Warren coach Brandon Smith. It’s going to be a real challenge, they’re a real physical team.A94R2456

Franklin-Simpson (1-1) is fresh off its first victory of the season—a 48-0 shutout win at Monroe County. The win against the Falcons was much-needed, the Wildcats still licking their wounds following a tough 55-23 loss at the hands of the Elizabethtown Panthers to open the season.IMG_4075

Meanwhile, South Warren (2-0) is still yet to find itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard, as the Spartans did not trail a single minute against neither Hopkinsville nor Warren Central.

The Spartans are led by newcomer junior quarterback Gavin Spurrier, who has completed 23-of-39 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns in his first two games taking snaps for the Spartans.

South Warren has also seen good production from the receiving core—especially from juniors Clayton Bush (140 receiving yards, two touchdowns) and Cameron Harrison (seven receptions, 78 yards). The ground game has also been steady with senior running back Christian Winn (166 rushing yards, two touchdowns).

The game between the Spartans and Wildcats is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Warren East High School.
