South Warren’s Martin and Stahl Tied for 4th After Day 1 at the Leachman Buick GMC State Girls Golf Tournament

South Warren’s Seniors Faith Martin and teammate McKenna Stahl both are tied in 4th place after shooting a 2-over par 74 just four strokes out of the lead.

Both girls had the same score but went about it differently throughout their round.  Martin’s first hole did not start off like the senior had envisioned it with a double bogey 6. But that did not shake the crafty and experience golfer as she came right back with birdies on the next two holes, a par 5 and a par 3.

Faith would par the next four holes, birdie number 8 and par the 9th hole to shoot a 1-under 35 at the turn. The back 9 delivered six pars and three bogeys finishing with a 39 on the back, and a total of 74 for the 1st round.

Faith’s teammate, senior McKenna Stahl, shot lights out leading the Leachman Buick early by posting a 2-uner 34 at the turn. McKenna pared seven holes with two birdies on the 3rd hole a par 3 and on the 5th hole a par 5.

McKenna was unable to continue her momentum on the back nine as she went bogey, bogey to start with two more bogeys on holes 14 and 15. McKenna pared 5 holes on the back nine to finish at 2-over par 74.

The Spartans as a team are just 4 strokes behind current second place held by Lexington Christian and 10 strokes behind the leaders Marshall County.

Madison Central’s Elizabeth Eberle leads the Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac with a 2-under 70.

Glasgow’s Senior Abbie Lee finished tied 9th just six stokes out of the lead shooting a 4 over par 76.

Greenwood’s Emma Harmon tied 26th shooting a 7 over par 79.
