South Warren head coach Brandon Smith told the Sporting Times he wanted a fast start, a cleaner ledger, and more urgency in the team’s quarterfinal matchup with Franklin-Simpson. His team decided they would grant that wish quickly, forcing a fumble on a Cameron Buckner strip on the second play of the game. Dimitri Bibb picked it up and took it to the one yard line, where Litten would keep it and score less than a minute into the contest.
South Warren’s defense forced three fumbles in the first half, and only punted once. In addition to his rushing TD, Ryder Litten threw two early touchdowns, a 35 yarder to Franklin Williams and another 12 yard strike to Austin McElwain. Mac would also rush for a five yard score in the half.
SWHS had a yardage advantage of 221 to 67 as the teams headed to the locker room, and had played one of its most complete games of the season.
Franklin-Simpson received the opening kickoff, which left the pigskin in the hands of the Spartans to open the second half.
South Warren led the game 28-0 at the break, and Smith’s club would tack on one more touchdown, also surrender a scoring throw to Evan Figert. The final was 34-7.
Kayron Namvong, who broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season, was named Bluegrass Cellular Player of the Game.
South Warren hosts Shelby County, who defeated John Hardin 44-14, in the 4A Semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM and STBN coverage begins at 6:45 with the State Farm Pregame Show.
