The South Warren football Spartans ranked number #1 in class 3A have completed a perfect season, after battling in the first half and running away in the second half from Russellville High School, earning their 10th win in 10 regular season games in a 45-22 contest on Thursday night.
The Spartans nearly doubled the amount of offensive yards that the Panthers had – 440 to 289 – and held Russellville’s wing-T offense to only 41 rushing yards in the third and fourth quarters, although they played those quarters without big 265 pound running back Desmond Quarles, who had 61 yards on 16 carries. On senior night, senior running back Julius Allen rushed for 123 yards and an 11 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The development of sophomore Ryder Litten has been outstanding, and it was on display last night, rushing and passing for two scores each. Used as a primarily running QB early in the season, he only had 32 rushing yards as opposed to 131 yards through the air on only seven throws.
The second season begins next week for the Spartans, as they’ll play host to Webster County in the first week of the 3A playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
