Spartans Rolls 52-0

South Warren’s bye week came at the right time for the Spartans, who were dealing with several nagging injuries. Not all of them were remedied by game time at Warren East, but Brandon Smith’s club seemed eager to get back out onto the field and get back into the groove. After settling for a field goal after an opening drive that chewed up nearly half of the first quarter, the Spartans took full control. The penalty issues were still a problem, but that was basically the only blemish.

Austin McElwain blocked the Raiders’ first punt and Franklin Williams took it into the end zone. Ryder Litten found McElwain for a touchdown pass right down the seam. Andrew Houchens scored twice on the ground, the second coming from 34 yards out. At the intermission, it was 44-0 and the running clock was in full effect.

The second half saw South Warren find the end zone one more time and finish a two point conversion. Backup quarterback Cameron Harrison rushed for two touchdowns. Outside of the early penalties, this was utter domination for the Spartans. 52-0 was the final, but even the score isn’t enough to adequately describe the lopsided nature of the football game. In the first half, the yardage totals told a much more devastating story for Raider Nation. South Warren finished with 326 yards in the first two quarters. Warren East finished with -16.

Andrew Houchens rushed the ball three times for 105 yards and 2 TDs. His explosive burst was something to behold, and it was good enough to be named Bluegrass Cellular Player of the Game. The most complete game of the season for South Warren sends Warren East home with a shutout loss on senior night.
Brandon Smith didn’t have much to complain about after the win. The Spartans head coach told the Sporting Times that outside of that first drive, he was proud of the discipline of his football team and the way his reserves played. He was drenched from the rain, but he was all smiles.

Next up for Sparty is a trip to Allen County Scottsville. Kickoff is set for 7 PM. Sporting Times Broadcast Network coverage begins at 6:45 with the State Farm Pregame show.
