  1. Bowling Green 16-4

Outlook: Bowling Green will test itself against archrival Warren Central on Tuesday after the initial meeting was postponed due to inclement weather. The Purples’ five region victories have been by an average of 38.4 points per win. Coach D.G. Sherrill’s club has won nine-consecutive games dating back to mid-December.

Upcoming Games: at Warren Central (Tuesday), at South Warren (Friday)

  1. Warren Central 6-5

Outlook: Warren Central has won five-straight games entering Tuesday’s matchup with Bowling Green. Senior stars Kade Unseld and Elijah Starks missed the season’s first five games but have since returned to the lineup and are making a big impact on both ends of the court. Starks is averaging 19.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game to lead the Dragons.

  1.  Barren County 12-4

Outlook: Warren Cunningham’s club has won five of six and currently sit atop the 15th District standings at 4-0. Tate Spillman leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game, while Graham Hall is averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest. The Trojans will go for the season sweep of crosstown rival Glasgow on Friday, after defeating the Scotties by 13 on January 12.

Upcoming Games: Russellville (Tuesday), at Glasgow (Friday)

  1.  Warren East 9-6

Outlook: Warren East has lost five of its last seven games after starting the season 7-1. An eleven-day break caused by the winter storms in the area last week will hopefully give the Raiders a clean reset they needed to get back on track. District games against Glasgow and Allen County-Scottsville will provide Kyle Benge’s club the opportunity to further its hold on second in the 15th District.

  1. Russell County 9-7

Outlook: Russell County is one of only two teams with an undefeated record against both district and region opponents (Bowling Green). The Lakers have lost three out of four games, but they will look to right the ship with four games this week. On Monday, Mayes Gosser and company will travel to Cumberland County for their first district meeting with the Panthers. Gosser leads the club in scoring (14.7 points) and rebounding (7.4).

Update: Russell County defeated Cumberland County, 63-61, on the road

Upcoming Games: Green County (Tuesday), at Mercer County (Friday), at Clinton County (Sunday)

  1. South Warren 8-7

Outlook: South Warren stays in the top six despite dropping three-straight games to open the new year. In the Spartans’ latest showing, they hung with Warren Central before succumbing to a 69-60 defeat. A big week is on the horizon for Carlos Quarles’ club with a road game at Greenwood on Monday and a visit from Bowling Green on Friday. The winner of Monday’s matchup will have a leg up on the other for the district’s 3-seed in next month’s tournament.

Update: South knocked off Greenwood, 71-62, in overtime on Monday

  1. Clinton County 10-8

Outlook: Before multiple games were canceled due to inclement weather, the Bulldogs of Clinton County clinched another trip to the All-A State Tournament with wins over Russellville and Monroe County. Now Nick Irwin’s club will travel to Corbin on Thursday where a date with Raceland will begin its trek for a state title. A win over Raceland will set up a quarterfinal meeting with Williamsburg or Murray on Friday. The Bulldogs reached the finals of the All-A in 2021.

Upcoming Games: vs. Raceland (Thursday)

  1. Monroe County 11-7

Outlook: Monroe County reached the finals of the 4th Region All “A” Classic but lost to Clinton County, 52-49, despite 22 points from senior Austen Arnett. The Falcons have won three of four and will look to continue the stellary play with three games this week. A district meeting with Metcalfe County on Thursday will show fans how competitive Monroe will be heading into the home stretch of the season.

  1. Franklin-Simpson 7-7

Outlook: Franklin-Simpson avenged a district championship loss at the hands of Todd County Central by picking up a 64-61 win on January 5. Four players hit double figures, led by OJ Gamble’s 17 points, as the Wildcats moved to 1-0 in 13th District play. Coach Dee Spencer’s club will have the opportunity to move atop the standings with two district games this week. A road trip to Russellville Monday and a home date with Todd await Franklin.

  1. Logan County 9-7

Outlook: Logan County feature at #10 in our rankings after winning eight of its last games dating back to mid-December. Before the snow break, the Cougars defeated district foes Russellville (72-70) and Todd County Central (80-68) to sit atop the 13th District standings at 2-0. Samson Hightower leads the club in scoring with 14.1 points per game.
