Coach Craig Pippen and the Glasgow Lady Scotties will travel to Warren East for an exciting early-season matchup between two teams expected to fare well in the 4th Region this season. For GHS, it will be the club’s fifth game of the season. However, WEHS will only be playing in its second game of the year – after three games were canceled for COVID-19. Warren East was ranked fourth in our preseason power rankings, while Glasgow checked in at #6.
Last Time Out
Glasgow lost in quadruple overtime to Metcalfe County, 83-79, in the 4th Region All “A” Classic
Warren East dropped a home meeting with Bowling Green, 61-39
Last Meeting – January 7, 2019
Glasgow blew by the Lady Raiders, 55-30, as Ashanti Gore scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The then-junior also made 10-of-11 field goals on the night. Lady Scottie then-senior Kyeden Hughes grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. The Lady Raiders were led by then-sophomores – and current players – Lucy Patterson and Caroline Forrester. Patterson led East with 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Forrester chipped in 9 and 7.
What to Watch For
Coach Jenny Neville’s Lady Raiders were ranked #4 in the preseason ST Power Rankings and bring back a wealth of experience after finishing 18-11 a season ago and reaching the 4th Region quarterfinals. It all starts with senior Lucy Patterson. The forward/guard averaged 17 points and over 8 rebounds last year and has picked up right where she left off in the team’s first game of 2021. Patterson scored 25 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in the Lady Raiders’ opening loss to Bowling Green. Caroline Forrester grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Glasgow has been incredibly balanced through the first four games. Five players are averaging at least seven points per game – led by Anzley Adwell at 16.2 points and 11.2 rebounds a night. Mia Cassady is averaging 11.5 points per game and has been deadly from three-point range. Of the sophomore guard’s 15 field goals made, 14 have been three-pointers. Ashton Botts is averaging 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds, while Khloe Hale averages 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
Prediction
We will have an exciting backcourt matchup featuring Patterson and Adwell. Both have already made their case as two of the region’s best players. In the loss to Bowling Green, Patterson was not given much assistance in the way of scoring. On Saturday, the club will need more balance if they are to knock off a Glasgow team that has played a tough schedule thus far (all four opponents were in the ST preseason top ten). Conversely, Pippen’s club has been the definition of balance. The team’s ability to get production from a variety of places will be their key to victory. With four games already under their belt, I will take the Lady Scotties in a close road win.
Glasgow 71, Warren East 66
Stat to Know – 8.5
Adwell is averaging 8.5 free throw attempts per game, including 12 attempts against Metcalfe County on Wednesday night.
