ST North: Chucks Look at week 7 and Key Matchups for week 8

When it rains it pours and it did for several teams during a wet Friday night

The weather report for last Friday night was rain and wind and in several instances it determined the outcome of games.

Probably the one game that weather didn’t play a determining factor was in Bowling Green where the Purples played a rare Thursday night game against Grayson County and displayed an awesome amount of athletic talent and showed why they might be a strong favorite to win it all in 5-A by demolishing the Cougars, 56-13. The Purples scored at will against and undermanned Grayson County team which has been in a rebuilding mode like several area teams during much of the year and had the game on a running clock in the second half. Like the Cougars, Meade County really knows the feeling with much of their championship talent from the past several years all gone and have been like coach Ed Smart at Grayson County, coach Larry Mofield has tried to rebuild and retool on the run, but the rebuilding season has already been more than quite a struggle as the Green Wave were manhandled by Christian-Academy of Louisville, 36-0. It was the second straight week that Meade County had been shutout and fewer things have been harder to come by this season for them then a touchdown.4G9A4118 (3)

Meanwhile, Elizabethtown stayed unbeaten and showed that a little rain couldn’t stop the Panthers offensive attack which rang up 398-yards on the ground and beat up Hart County, 49-7. Elizabethtown will rest during their bye week while the other 3-A team which has stayed even with the Panthers, Adair County beat Edmonson County, 42-6 behind 141-yards rushing by Jordan Lasley and his 3-touchdowns. The Indians will face the Panthers and it should be quite a game. While Central Hardin was on a bye week, John Hardin pulled even with a big 48-6 win over Breckenridge County as their District schedule begins and in the rain LaRue County, who just missed pulling one out the previous week, scored often and quickly against Fort Knox, 56-0.

Games to Watch:

Collins (3-3) @ Central Hardin (3-3)

Since moving up to 4-A, Collins hasn’t really seemed to enjoy the view just pulling even at 3-3 behind coach Jerry Lucas. This isn’t the same team which won the state championship several seasons ago, but they are still plenty dangerous behind running back Nasean Roseberry (410-yards and 3-TDs) and quarterback JR Lucas (777-yards and 11-TDs). The Bruins are coming off a bye week and are still smarting after a 42-6 beating by Bowling Green. This will be a good tune up before they begin District play.

Meade County (2-5) @ North Hardin (2-5)

A very intriguing matchup last season, but still a District Game as both teams are coming off lopsided losses and really need a win to help balance things out and get them in the playoffs. Meade County has had trouble scoring points and has been shut out three times already this season. North Hardin can score, but sometimes has trouble stopping the run as DeSales piled it on last week.

The Top Five: Elizabethtown (7-0)

Adair County (7-0)

John Hardin (4-3)

Bethlehem (4-2)

Central Hardin (3-3)
