During a wet week 6, John Hardin and North Hardin got back in the win column, while only Adair County and Elizabethtown stay perfect.
On a week where weather tried to play a part, several teams were able to stay perfect while several others were able to get back on the winning pace. In 3-A, Adair County made short work of Kentucky County Day by thrashing them,45-19 and continuing their string of games in which the offense has scored over 20-points which has reached six. Just right behind them is Elizabethtown, who likewise has stayed close with beating Edmonson County, 33-8 getting two touchdown runs by quarterback Jack Wilson and a touchdown pass from him to Jay Becherer covering 22-yards. Both teams are on a collision course on October 16th when the Panthers will travel to Columbia to face off with the Indians and an unbeaten season is at stake.
While Elizabethtown and Adair County are still perfect, Bethlehem got back on the winning track shutting out Bellevue, 23-0, behind Hunter Downs 165-yards rushing and his two touchdowns. Coach Ron Kootz’s team has shown the ability to bounce back from adversity and they proved that after last week’s ugly loss to KCD.
North Hardin tasted something they hadn’t experienced since back in mid-August: A victory. After several tough losses, the Trojans beat Monroe County behind another big performance by Taven Graves, who had 246-yards rushing on 32-carries. The John Hardin Bulldogs suffered a tough luck loss to Central Hardin the previous week and welcomed in an area foe to Bulldog Stadium. The Meade County Green Wave, but coach Chad Lewis and his Bulldogs were far from hospitable by pounding them on the ground with runners like Robert Shorter and Korie Cleveland in a 37-0 win. John Hardin ran all over Meade County for 217-yards and 3-touchdowns and began to look like the team that finished the season last year on a high.
Meanwhile the team which squeezed by the Bulldogs the previous week came back to reality quickly when Bowling Green built a 36-0 lead at the half and cruised to a 42-6 win. And finally, the LaRue County Hawks came close, but a punt return for a touchdown was nullified by a penalty and Hart County pulled out a 12-6 win.
Games to Watch:
Hart County (5-1) @ Elizabethtown (6-0)
And now the fun begins as the Raiders will make an appearance at Elizabethtown for a 3-A 8:00 contest. The Raiders are led by running back Brian Simmons (530-yards/6-TDs) and quarterback Josh Shoulders (485-yards passing / 4-TDs). Hart County wins most of the time with defense allowing only 55-points (the second fewest in 3-A). The Raiders have thrown three shutouts already this season and have most of that point total in their loss to Union County (42-29). The Raiders don’t make many mistakes on offense and Elizabethtown will try to pound the ball early and get them behind thus forcing them to scramble and pass. Hart County would love to play a close game and let the chips fall where they may.
DeSales (4-1) @ North Hardin (2-4)
This may seem like a head scratcher, but with most teams either off this week or just beginning District play, this out of District matchup looks like a good one. 2-A DeSales is a two-time state champion and looks pretty formidable at this time despite losing (14-0) to Fern Creek. The Colts defense has only allowed 39-points in five-games and are led by on offense by quarterback Austin Johnson, who leads the team in passing and in rushing. The 6-A Trojans have won two games and were in three of the losses and can move the ball behind Taven Graves and Isaiah Bankhead. This could be a high scoring affair.
