ST Power Rankings — Week 9 Boys Basketball

Week 9

School                                Record          Last Week

  1. Bowling Green                        12-2                             1

Outlook: Bowling Green played only once in Week 8 – a 61-45 loss to Ballard at home. Isaiah Mason was the only Purple who scored in double figures; he had 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Per the KHSAA website, BG is scheduled to play five times in six days this week. However, a few of these games are sure to be rescheduled or canceled. For example, the Purples were scheduled to play Evangel Christian on Monday; however, the Eagles are playing in the quarterfinals of the All A State Tournament on Tuesday, so the game with the Purples will not happen until the Eagles’ All A run is over. Bowling Green is also scheduled to travel to Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday before hosting Owensboro (Wednesday), North Oldham (Friday), and Paducah Tilghman (Saturday). Check throughout the week to see if which of these games will be played.

2. Clinton County                       16-2                             2

Outlook: Clinton County further strengthened its hold on the #2 spot in our weekly top ten after beating both Owensboro Catholic and Murray in the opening two rounds of the All A State Tournament. Both wins were equally impressive as both teams are expected to challenge for the region titles in their respective regions. Nick Delk led the Bulldogs in their opening round win with 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Blake Melton scored 15 points and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Coach Todd Messer’s crew will next play the winner of Evangel Christian and Somerset in the semifinals of the event. The semifinals (Friday) and finals (Saturday) are scheduled to take place at Eastern Kentucky University.

3. Franklin-Simpson                   9-2                               6

Outlook: Franklin-Simpson propelled up the rankings after a perfect 3-0 week with two wins against top ten teams (Metcalfe County and Barren County). Dre Miller averaged 24 points in the three contests, including a 34-point outing in the win over Metcalfe County. The Wildcats will be favored in each of its three scheduled games this week, as they will host Logan County, Todd County Central, and Monroe County.

4. Allen County-Scottsville        12-4                             4

6. Barren County                        15-6                             3

Outlook: Barren County slipped three spots after a 30-foot buzzer-beater by Taye Poynter to beat South Warren was the only thing keeping the Trojans from an 0-3 week. Coach Warren Cunningham’s club played three quality opponents in Week 8 hosting Franklin-Simpson and Elizabethtown (losing both) and beating the Spartans, 46-43. A big game with Clinton County is on the schedule for Thursday; however, it is unsure at this time whether the game will go on as the Bulldogs play in Richmond on Friday as part of the All A State Tournament.
