School records and state championships aren’t the only things that Mater Dei teammates Maura Muensterman and Tori Schickel have notched on their belts during their careers. Among many honors, both were named to the 2014 IBCA/Indystar.com Indiana All-Star teams, which compete against the Kentucky All-Star squads. Muensterman, an Indiana commit and senior runner-up for Mrs. Basketball this season, averaged 22.3 points and 8.2 assists per game to lead the Wildcats to their 3rd straight State Championship appearance. Schickel, a junior forward, averaged 17 points and 11.3 rebounds. Muensterman was named to the Girl’s All-Star team while Schickel was included in the Core Six of the Girl’s Junior All-Star team. Also representing the Pocket City in the South Six of the Junior All-Star team in the event will be guard/forward Stephanie Sherwood from Memorial. Sherwood helped the Tigers to a Sectional Championship against Mater Dei, boasting 17.9 points and 9 rebounds a contest.

On the boys side, forward Adam Eberhard of Memorial was selected to the Junior All-Star team behind 19.5 points and 8.6 rebounds through 24 games. Following Eberhard’s lead, Memorial made it’s first Regional Championship since the 2007-2008 season where they fell to the eventual State Champions, Tyler Zeller and the Washington Hatchets. “We had a good year winning the Sectional and advancing to the Regional. Right now, I’m focused on trying to make myself a better player and look to make another deep run next year,” says Eberhard. He and the girls mentioned above join an elite class of players from the state of Indiana.

Trey Lyles, a University of Kentucky commit of Arsenal Tech, took home Mr. Basketball and headed the 2014 All-Star team. Other notable players on the list were Indiana commit James Blackmon Jr., Grant Evans of Wapahani, who committed to Wright State and P.J. Thompson of Brebeuf Jesuit, who’ll be a Purdue Boilermaker next season. As for the girls, Whitney Jennings of Logansport won Mrs. Basketball and will play her collegiate career at Iowa. To name a couple others, Alex Hochstedler from Fishers is also on the Girl’s All-Star roster and is headed to Walsh while Sydney Buck of Homestead is playing for Butler at the next level. Out of the All-Star teams and Junior Core Six, North Six and South Six, there are a total of 25 players named to each of the Boys and Girls teams. “It’s an honor to receive the selection with the few players that were selected from this area and the great players that they are,” says Eberhard.

The All-Stars and Junior All-Stars will assemble their respective teams to duke it out with the Kentucky All-Stars. This tradition is nearly as old as the All-Star teams themselves as the states have been competing annually since 1940. On the 6th of June, the Boys and Girls teams play in Indianapolis followed by games in Lexington the following day. As for the All-Star teams, they’ll flip the order and play in Lexington on June 13th and Indianapolis on the 14th.
