Survey Says for “A League of Their Own!”
Is there anything more interesting than a survey about movies that depict a sport? Here is one taken back in 2015 about the movie “A League of Their Own!”

1. Which character on that movie do you best identify with?
Mary Beth Lawson – “Not just one character stands out. They all do. There are so many interesting ones, but they all play so many interesting aspects of the game and you can take a little from each one and put them together and use each one.”
Mariah Bryant – “Probably Dottie. She controls the field and tries to take charge and I like to take charge.”
Hannah Howard – “I’d say the catcher. She’s kind of the mother figure on the team. She’s really dependable and people look up to her and she leads through actions.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “The pitcher, because even though people don’t believe in her she goes on to prove that she is a good ballplayer.”
Grayson Gasser – “Probably the catcher, because she’s the leader on the team and she doesn’t put up with any one messing with her sister.”
Bailey Blair – “I guess the catcher because the storyline revolves around her and it shows all the obstacles she had to overcome and then I think at some part of the movie she was debating whether to play baseball, but she chose to keep playing so it showed her passion for the game.”
2. Would you ever let your sister score on you if you were a catcher?
Mary Beth Lawson – “No.”
Mariah Bryant – “Probably not. I’m pretty competitive.”
Hannah Howard – “I don’t know about that. Maybe, but I don’t know. I would hate to let down my team.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “No. You don’t let your sister score on you. It makes you look bad.”
Grayson Gasser – “I don’t think so. I mean I play with my best friend on the team and we are always trying to beat each other.”
Bailey Blair – “That’s a really tough question. You are compromising your love for the game and your family. What do I love more? My sister or the Game? That’s kind of how I see it.
3. If you had the chance would you like to play baseball?
Mary Beth Lawson – “I prefer softball. I think it’s less complicated and I think you get more of a family feel than baseball.”
Mariah Bryant – “I’d be interested in it. I’ve always wanted to play baseball. I’d like to give it a try.”
Hannah Howard – “I don’t know. I like softball and the pitching would be totally different. Pitching is what I’ve always done and that would change a lot.”
Grayson Gasser – “Not really.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “I’d love to.”
Bailey Blair – “Actually did start out playing baseball when I was younger then I moved up to softball because I began to advance. If I had a chance I’d love to because a lot of men believe baseball is the superior sport and the softball is easier.”
4. If you ever seen a catcher and a pitcher with quite as volatile relationship as the two sisters in the movie?
Mary Beth Lawson – “No. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in all the year’s I’ve played.”
Mariah Bryant – “I don’t think I’ve ever seen two sisters playing together as pitcher or catcher on the same team.”
Hannah Howard – “Yes. I have. I go to pitching lessons with two sisters that are pitcher and catcher. They are pretty cool. They know when things aren’t going well and they are use to each other.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “Yes. I have especially in our age group.”
Grayson Gasser – “A lot of the players on our team have played with their siblings and there is a deeper competition. They want their siblings to do well, but on the other hand they want to win also.”
Bailey Blair –“I definitely believe that a pitcher and a catcher should have that kind of relationship like sisters. You have your team to back you up, but you two have to be on the same page on what pitch your throwing and you have to look out for each other. I have seen some pitcher-catcher relationships like that.”
5. Have you ever had a coach make you cry during a softball game?
Mary Beth Lawson – “Yes. Many of them. There is crying in softball.”
Mariah Bryant – “When I was in seventh grade, I was thrown in to catch and I’d never caught before. I’ve caught, but not in high school and the coach got mad because I’d never blocked a ball before and he hollered at me because I let a run score. He was already mad before that. I cried. I thought he hated me after that.”
Hannah Howard – “Yes. That has actually happened. I shook off a change up one time and he wasn’t happy with me. I didn’t cry.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “Yes. I have. About three years ago. Somebody else made a mistake and I got blamed for it.”
Grayson Gasser – “I have never cried during a softball game. I was ten when I began really getting coached during competitive softball and I have been yelled at and I did get down on myself, but I never cried.”
Bailey Blair – “I have had a coach make me cry. I think a lot of players have had a moment where I’m not saying during a game or it may be practice. I’ve broke down I guess two years ago. I kind of had a crying fit. I was reflecting on what pitches I had thrown and what I could have done better to help us win. Coach Baker said a few things to me after the game and that’s when I got down and felt bad.”
6. Shorts or Skirts?
Mary Beth Lawson – “I have played in shorts. That’s okay, but no skirts.”
Mariah Bryant – “I would much rather wear shorts. I’m not on skirts.”
Hannah Howard – “Personally, I’d prefer shorts, because if I had to slide you can get really bad raspberries.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “I would not wear skirts. I would wear shorts though.”
Grayson Gasser – “I wish they wore ball pants, but definitely shorts not skirts.”
Bailey Blair – “I could not wear a skirt.”
7. Do you believe that the actors in the movie did a good job portraying baseball players?
Mary Beth Lawson – “Yes.”
Mariah Bryant – “I think they did really well in the movie. They looked like they really played baseball.”
Hannah Howard – “I think they were really competent in their abilities and really cared about what other people thought of them.”
Cassidy Logsdon – “I thought they did.”
