Talking with Sarah Shrewsberry
Coming into the new season, Breckinridge County was by many the favorite to represent the 3rd Region in Girls Basketball. Although it hasn’t been the easy ride many thought, they have been constant winners and one of the reasons is senior Sarah Shrewsberry, who is one of the top scorers on the team. She took time to grant this interview about many things including basketball and one of her favorite past times watching “American Horror Story!”
TST – 1982 was the last Region title for the Girls Basketball team. Does it seem strange sometimes that the team is chasing something this season that happened before you were even born?
SS – I would use the word motivation instead of strange . It would be great to finish my high school career with a regional title. 
TST – Last season, the team was the best kept secret making it to the 3rd Region Final. This season, does it seem like everyone is giving your team their best game like LaRue County just did because you were preseason favorites?
SS – I think ANY TEAM would want to beat the No.1 team. I know if the roles were reversed I’d be bringing my best game.
TST – How much do you think your game (shooting-dribbling-intelligence) has changed going from your freshman year to your senior year and what did you feel you had to work on to improve yourself during the offseason?
SS – My game has changed in every way since my freshman year. I had to work on every aspect to improve. My freshman and sophomore year I wouldn’t even shoot a three.
TST – The last several years there has been a more intense move in regards to officiating where there is less tolerance to hand checking. Do you think that it’s more constant this season (officiating) and what do you think they should change?
SS – Yes. I think there is definitely less tolerance to it. Basketball is a physical sport and players should be able to make contact where they are not getting called for every touch, but not to the point where they are pushing people.
TST – In your first Grayson County game, Allie Horton kept on getting loose constantly and put up 20-points while hitting two buzzer beaters in their win. It seemed like Mallory Williams (LaRue County) was doing the same thing tonight. What does coach Bennett preach to you girls about preventing that?
SS – He tells us to shade the shooters and have help defense to prevent them from getting into the lane.
TST – Give me a funny Coach Bennett story.
SS – At one of our games at Meade County, Bennett wore a sweater vest and their pep section was chanting “Sweater Vest!” most of the time.
TST – I’ve asked several high school athletes this question. As the high school games become more and more visible to the media do you think that athletes should be schooled on how to conduct themselves during interviews?
SS – Well considering I have hidden from you almost every game this season I would say the answer is YES!
TST – Because so many athletes are being taught proper nutrition at an early age do you follow a certain diet and do you have a favorite thing you like before games?
SS – I don’t have a specific diet overall, but I do try to eat carbs and protein and drink plenty of water before games.
TST – I saw where you are a fan of “American Horror Story.” Which of the seasons do you like the most (I think they are on their fifth right now with the movie series) and what continuing character do you like the most?
SS – My favorite so far is Season One. My favorite character is probably Sarah Paulson because she is a good actress.
