The 2015 cross country got off in a blazing start. Greenwood’s boys placed 15th in the annual Kentucky-Indiana Boarder Clash held at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro. The Lady Gators placed 9th out of the 25 teams that participated. Sam Ward (17:26) placed 32nd out of 370 runners and Lynda Scannell (20:45) placed 19th out of 217 runners.
Tara Henshaw has patiently worked hard rebuilding the Rader cross country tradition that represented the Rob Bowers reign. The 2015 Warren East Raider Run realized a total of 904 runners from 42 schools. The return of Bowling Green’s Madison Peeples (18:50) was good enough for 1st place, while teammates Brittney Hansen placed 3rd (20:10) and Sallie Sutton (21:24) placed 6th.
The Lady Purples finished 1st in the team standings. Caroline Haas of South Warren finished 2nd (19:54) and teammates Lucy Knudson (21:26) placed 8th, Isabelle Graves (22:09) finished 16th, Hallie White (22:19) placed 18th and Chelby Draper (22:21) finished 19th for a team placement of 2nd. Leah Jessee of Barren County (21:05) placed 4th and led the Lady Trojans to a 6th place team finish. Logan County placed 11th ahead of Greenwood’s 12 place finish. The Warren East boys team brought home first place honors ahead of South Warren and Bowling Green’s 6th place team finish. Trajon Hall (16:53) placed 3rd for the Purples, Jacob England (17:11) of Warren East finished 5th, Matt Wininger (17:38) from South Warren finished 8th ahead of teammate Kyle Woodward (17:46), Dalton Sledge (17:47) of Warren East placed 10th ahead of teammate Calvin Blankenship (18:04). Nolan Johnson of Butler County finished 14th with a time of 18:09, Clint Pommier of Allen County placed 15th (18:14), and Gage Cousineau of Logan County finished 18th (18:19).
The annual Bowling Green Purple Strider was host to 15 High Schools from across the Commonwealth. Caroline Haas of South Warren won the girls race (19:58) in front of Glasgow’s Rebekah Howard (20:28). Leah Jessee of Barren County palced 3rd (20:53). Lucy Knutson (21:32) and Haylee White (21:38) placed 6th and 7th respectively for South Warren’s 1st place team finish. Glasgow’s team finished 3rd (Autumn Copass – 18th, Faylee Brown – 21st, Samantha Stone – 33rd, and Acey Page – 41st). Host school, Bowling Green’s boys finished 3rd behind South Warren (2nd) and Muhlenberg (1st). Jonah Mitchell of Muhlenberg won the 5k (17:08) ahead of Bowling Green’s Trajon Hall (17:25). Carter Chavira (17:30 – 3rd) and Matt Wininger (17:55 – 5th) paced their team to a runner-up team finish. Austin Sasse (18:15 – 8th) of Edmonson, Hunter Jackson (18:23 – 9th) and Brandon Reed (18:25 – 10th) finished in the top 10 out of a field of 88 runners.
The Rumble through the Jungle cross country meet attracted 25 high schools (187 runners in the boys race AND 140 runners in the girls race) hosted by North Oldham High School. Warren East placed its top 6 runners within the top 50 and finished 6th out of the 25 team field of runners. Jacob England placed 13 (17:21), Jerrod Eleazer finished 29th (17:54), Dalton Sledge placed 32nd (17:59), Calvin Blankenship finished 47th (18:21) ahead of Jacob William (18:26 – 48th), and Taylor Herron finished 50th (18:26). The Greenwood Gators finished 9th out of the 25 teams. Sam Ward led the Gators with a time of 17:33 good enough for 16th place. Connor Hartis finished 76th (19:10) ahead of his teammate Sam Carini (19:13 – 77th), Tate McClard placed 80th (19:15), and Will Scott finished 83rd (19:16). The Warren East girls placed 15th. Emma Steff led the Lady Raiders with a time of 20:59 (23rd), Madeline Elder finished 80th (24:06), Jordon Cummings placed 84th (24:22), and Cady Schoeck finished 87th (24:23). The Lady Gators of Greenwood finished 6th out of a field of 25 teams. Lynda Scannell led the team with a 12th place finish improving her time to 20:25. Ashley Spiller finished 42nd (22:26), Hope Leeper placed 50th (22:43), Megan Perez finished 56th (22:53), and Allison Kessler placed 74th (23:45).
