The WEEK in Football
In a game which saw several lead changes and an air of desperation for one team, the Central Hardin Bruins FINALLY celebrated when Gavin George broke up a fourth down pass in overtime to complete a 35-28 victory over the Meade County Green Wave. It was a game which Meade County desperately needed because it was the only other district game while Central Hardin will still face North Hardin this week. After trailing much of the game, the Green Wave finally got unwrapped when they scored twice in the fourth quarter to take a 28-21 lead, but the Bruins came right back with :36 remaining in regulation to tie it up on a Jay Hobbs 9-yard run. After Deonco Wilkinson scored in overtime to give the Bruins a 35-28 lead, Central Hardin held on the Green Wave’s next possession to finalize the win.
The Bruins- Green Wave game was just part one of playoff weekend as a first place game took place in Elizabethtown when the Panthers finally overcame a stubborn LaRue County team to win 35-13. The Hawks were the ONLY undefeated team in the area and actually held a 7-6 lead after one period. Despite not running a single play in the first period, Elizabethtown took a 14-7 halftime lead and eventually took a 21-7 lead after intercepting a Dane Milby pass. The Hawks actually controlled the ball much of the game, but simply were unable to capitalize as the Panthers scred twice more to get the win.
Meanwhile, Fort Knox welcomed a return of running back Kaylon Luster as he teamed with Maleeq Walters to lead the Eagles to their second win of the season in a 66-14 win over Caverna. Luster, who had missed much of the season because of an injury piled up 269-yards rushing on just 8-carries and three touchdown runs covering 50, 57 and 91 yards. It was the biggest point total for the Eagles in a long time and with a little luck could mean a playoff game for Fort Knox which also hasn’t happened in recent memory.
What better way to end Friday the 13th.
Game of the week – North Hardin @ Central Hardin: This game will help decide seeding as both the Trojans and Bruins have one win a piece in a three team district. North Hardin hasn’t beaten the Bruins since 2008 and the game will be at Central Hardin. Key matchups will be the Bruin defense against Trojan quarterback Eric Moore and his talented group of receivers, while the North Hardin Defense must contend with the Bruin running game headlined by Jay Hobbs. Kickoff set for 7:30.
