                                                                              The Week in Photos!

It was another week for high school sports in the 5th Region and this week we saw the debut of regular season Soccer, Volleyball and FINALLY Football. With multiple games going on all week long, there were plenty of cameras going off and here are some of the images that signify the beginning of the Fall Sports season in all levels.

Senior Goalkeeper Sydney Pinkham helped spearhead a defense that allowed the Elizabethtown Girls Soccer team to shutout their first two opponents by a combined score of 17-0. The Lady Panthers, many believed to be going through a rebuilding year have proved in the early going to be anything but as they look ahead to tough games against Ballard and Central Hardin.

Central Hardin has kept pace with the Lady Panthers with a couple of impressive wins over both North Hardin and Bardstown and a team which returns much of their scoring punch awaits a big date against Elizabethtown on August 28.

LaRue County came out fast and quick against North Hardin in volleyball action and took the first game 25-20, but the Lady Trojans rebounded and won the next three games to take the match 3-1 in the best of five series.

It took awhile, because after Breckinridge County won games one and two in dramatic fashion, North Hardin came roaring back and won games three and four and actually was up by two in game five, until the Lady Tigers came back and won 18-16. Breckinridge County has been a pleasant surprise going 6-1 in the early going.

Elizabethtown finally ROARED and devoured the Trojans in an early Saturday afternoon District matchup. The Panthers, who hadn’t beaten North Hardin since 2010 got great play by their corner kick offense and came up with two goals and added another one to win 3-0.

Simon Kenton came a long way to play Meade County in the season football opener for both teams, but you’d never have known it as the Pioneers built an early lead and simply controlled the game. The Green Wave missed some early chances and were never in contention thereafter in a 47-13 Simon Kenton win.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs were playing an exhibition game against Cincinnati Saturday night and scored on their first four offensive possessions as the Chiefs went through three different quarterbacks, but ran the offense like a machine in a 30-12 Kansas City win. The Bengals moved the ball well, but kept settling for field goals.
