Eli Burwash went the distance in game #1, fanning 14 batters and allowing only two earned runs as the Purples strengthened their lead in the district standings. The next district test will be a home-and-home series with #2 South Warren next Monday and Tuesday.

2. South Warren                         11-3                             2

Outlook: South Warren extended its win streak to ten games with a sweep of district foe Warren Central. In the 16-0 victory over the Dragons, pitcher Coleman House pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven in four innings of work. The Spartans will host the South Warren Lumberjack Classic this weekend with games against Butler County, Central Hardin, and Christian County.

3. Russell County                        14-3                             3

Outlook: The region’s longest win streak belongs to the Russell County Lakers, winners of eleven-consecutive games. David Rexroat’s club picked up three district victories over each of the other 16th District foes to move to 4-0 in the standings. The next two games will complete the Lakers’ district schedule, hosting Cumberland County (Thursday) and Clinton County (next Tuesday).

4. Franklin-Simpson                  8-5                               6

Outlook: Franklin-Simpson extended its win streak to six games with wins over Todd County Central and Butler County. Dalton Fiveash and Ben Banton combined to strike out twelve in the win over Butler, allowing only three hits overall. The Wildcats host #6 Greenwood, #1 Bowling Green, and #8 Glasgow to end the week.

5. Warren East                            11-7                             4

6. Greenwood                              10-8                             5

Outlook: Greenwood continues to get neither too hot nor too cold, never winning or losing more than two games in a row this season. The Gators will look to right the ship with six-straight road games on tap, starting with a Thursday-Saturday schedule of Franklin-Simpson, Barren County, and Breckinridge County.

7. Barren County                        11-5                             9

Outlook: Barren County has won five of six after beating crosstown rival Glasgow, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
