TRINITY ENDS CENTRAL HARDIN’S RUN
Weather : A cool Friday night in the low 40’s.
Patterns : The Shamrocks scored on six possessions in the first half and forced the Bruins in an impossible situation trying to match Trinity touchdown for touchdown. A feat they could not accomplish.
The Hero : If there was one, it might have been the Shamrocks Defense in general (the Defensive Line in particular), which was able to control Central Hardin’s dangerous running attack and although trailing the entire game, Central Hardin only attempted three passes, while one of the best D-Lines in the state held them in check for only 96-yards on the ground.
Turnovers : Although the Shamrocks were a juggernaut on offense, a Bruin fumble which came late in the second quarter with Trinity ahead 28-3 would result in another Shamrock touchdown as Trinity quarterback Nick Bohn connected with Nick Strothman for his second touchdown catch of the night (he would eventually have three) from 17-yards out to make it 35-3.
Ball Control : The play total might have been close (Trinity 49 to Central Hardin 38) the difference was the Shamrocks big play capability. Of their seven touchdowns, Trinity had four which covered 30-yards or more.
The Kicking Game : The Bruins have one of the most reliable kickers in the game and he took advantage of their only serious scoring threat which ended with Garrett Schall’s 41-yard field goal. On the other hand, Trinity’s Sebastian Mata made good on all seven extra point attempts.
Big Plays : Trinity put the game away n their first possession on a quick drive which culminated in a 4-yard Geremiah Smith touchdown run. After Schall’s field goal made it 7-3, Smith followed up with a 64-yard scoring run about 20-seconds later to make it 14-3. Nick Strothman caught a 30-yard pass from Nick Bohn to make it 21-3, then after Central Hardin was forced to punt on their next possession, Rondale Moore returned the ensuing punt for 64-yards into the end zone.
The Clutch : Unfortunately for Central Hardin, the game was practically over after Smith’s first touchdown as the defense pretty much kept the Bruins simply could not get it done against arguably the best defense in 6-A holding them to just 96-yards total offense.
