TROJANS TOP GREEN WAVE!
On the surface, you might think that North Hardin’s 40-26 win over Meade County was a blowout.
It was anything but that.
It was a two-point difference at halftime and the Trojans had to come from behind twice in the second half before they came up with two gift touchdowns to make the margin look a bit ridiculous. For a team which had NOW beaten the Green Wave three straight times, this victory really came down to three plays.
With North Hardin trailing 26-21 in the fourth quarter, quarterback Eric Moore got hot hitting a couple passes and when they reached the 17-yardline and then a high center snap threw the young signal caller off balance, but he was able to recover the ball and roll right before going out of bounds gaining nine yards to the eight. Then a couple plays later, Moore recovered another high snap, but avoided disaster then calmly rolled left, then stopping before lobbing a pass to brother Josh Moore for a 5-yard touchdown pass. The extra point made the score 28-26 and the third game deciding play occurred during the Meade County offensive drive. With the ball at midfield, Meade County faced a fourth and short yardage and decided to go for it, but the Trojan defense, much maligned during the season came up with a huge play penetrating through the right side stopping running back Zach Babb for no gain.
After that, the Trojans got a long touchdown run from Tavien Starks as North Hardin was trying to run out the clock and on the next possession, Green Wave quarterback Trent Mofield threw a long pass which was intercepted by Jerome McKinney and returned for a 60-yard touchdown as time ran out.
The scoring play finalized a much needed win for North Hardin, who won their first District game. Meanwhile, Meade County had lost their third straight game and also face a very important game against District rival Central Hardin this week to help improve their playoff chances.
Meade County head coach Larry Mofield was not happy afterwards and pointed to their defensive performance as the Green Wave defenders had trouble making tackles all night long. North Hardin coach Brent Thompson was much happier as his team had run a gauntlet playing some of the state’s best trying to prepare his team for this moment. North Hardin will face a bye week and then get ready for the Central Hardin Bruins the following week.
