Junior guard Zakoria Hill scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, leading the Warren Central girls’ basketball team to a 50-37 victory over visiting Warren East on Monday night.
The Lady Dragons (8-13 overall) outscored the Lady Raiders (3-17) led from start to finish, never allowing East to ever get into a rhythm.
Along with Hill’s big outing, senior forward Karajah Leach pitched in a performance of 14 points and 7 boards, helping Central win its second-straight after defeating Ohio County 45-17 on Saturday evening at home.
In their loss, the Lady Raiders were carried by junior forward Cressida Duncan, who finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Warren Central jumped out to a big lead and never looked back.
After the opening quarter, the Lady Dragons were leading 12-0, as Hill had already scored half of those points. Central extended that run all the way until the 5:14 mark of the second – that was when Warren East freshman guard Allison Hendrick scored to give her team their first points of the contest.
The Lady Dragons went on to add 19 more points to their side of the scoreboard throughout the first half and held a 31-7 advantage after two full periods of play. At intermission, Hill led all scorers with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
The Lady Raiders responded in the third quarter by scoring 13 points – powered by Hendrick’s three-pointer and jumper – but trailed 45-20 heading into the final period.
Warren East had a big fourth quarter, as it scored 16 points, but it didn’t have enough in the tank to come all of the way back and take a lead over Warren Central, as it fell short to the Lady Dragons.
