Warren Central’s Smith gaining interest

With all of the talk of Warren Central’s outstanding offense, there has been little talk of their defense. The Dragons are led on defense by junior linebacker Emmitt Smith. Before he has played his senior season, Smith is already being recruited by several programs in the surrounding area.

The Dragons have put up big numbers with their running game this season, scoring an average of 63 points in their last three games. Smith has carried the weight in 2013 on defense. In those three high scoring games for WCHS, Smith has had a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Teams are hitting the ground running on the recruitment of Smith. Western Kentucky, Kentucky, and Purdue have all made offers to the Dragons’ star defender. Indiana sent Smith 752 letters, and he made a visit to Tennessee State according to his twitter page. All of this attention is coming near the end of Smith’s junior season, and is the most attention a Warren Central player has received in some time. Smith has expressed his interest in Kentucky, which offered him earlier in the season. Emmitt Smith would be the second Warren Central recruit to be highly recruited by UK. Wide receiver Lynell Dewalt was the last Dragon to become a Wildcat in 2004.

Smith will get a chance to show his ability on a bigger stage Friday night against the 9-2 Graves County. No matter how this season ends, Smith will be playing on a bigger stage in two years for a division one school.
