Warren East cruises past Logan County

RUSSELLVILLE – Ryan Hawks came up big again for the Warren East High School baseball team on Monday night, striking out 14 batters while throwing a complete game in a 10-3 win over Region 4 foe Logan County.

The Raiders (10-4) gave the Cougars fits all night long, as they laid down 12 hits and forced three errors.

East’s offensive rhythm began early, as it took a 4-0 lead on Matt Alford’s grand over the left field wall.

After Hawks – a Louisville commit – retired five batters over the first two innings, Grant Turner connected on a two-run RBI triple to give the Raiders a 6-0 advantage halfway through the third.

The Cougars (12-3) recorded a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning off hits from Caleb Justice and Third Bell, but Warren East fired back with two more scores in the top of the fourth to go up 8-2.

Logan County added a run in the fifth, but East added a pair of runs to its side of the scoreboard throughout the fifth and sixth innings to seal it.

The Raiders, who are now on a four-game win streak, return home to face Cumberland County Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The Cougars will host crosstown rival Russellville at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday night.
