With the state playoffs quickly approaching, many area teams will be looking to close out their regular-seasons this week on positive notes and in hopes of carrying plenty of momentum into the postseason.
Warren East is one of those said clubs.
The Raiders (5-4 overall), who suffered a 45-14 loss to Franklin-Simpson in the Class 4A, District 2 championship last week, host Bardstown at 7 p.m. Friday on the Smurf Turf to conclude their 2017 regular-season and prepare for their first round state playoff matchup against Hopkinsville on Nov. 3.
Against Franklin, it was a game in which East held a 7-3 lead at halftime but was dominated in the second half by the Wildcats’ explosive offense to be outscored 42-7. In their setback, freshman quarterback Nolan Ford passed for 120 yards and a touchdown while senior running back Thomas Maxey rushed for 91 yards and a score on 10 carries.
Additionally, senior wide receiver Caleb Huskey caught two passes for 82 yards and a TD.
Bardstown (3-6) travels to Bowling Green after losing 48-0 at Elizabethtown last Friday. Prior to that meeting, the Tigers fell 66-0 at Central in Week 10. Bardstown is led by freshman quarterback Brady Clark, who has threw for 1,230 yards and 10 TDs this year.
The all-time series between the two sides (dating back to 1983) is even at 3-3. They haven’t played since Sept. 12, 2008 — a slim 36-35 Raider victory.
