Midway through the 2017 high school football season, Warren East and Monroe County are sitting in similar territory.
When the two sides meet on Friday night in Tompkinsville, they’ll both be looking to earn a boost entering the second half of their seasons.
Warren East (3-2) enters Week 6 following a 16-14 home loss to Glasgow last Friday. The Class 4A Raiders led 14-0 at halftime, but were ultimately outscored 16-0 by the Scotties in the second half to suffer the setback. East recorded 225 yards of total offense while running back Thomas Maxey rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. Wide receiver Caleb Huskey had two receptions for 81 yards and a score.
Raiders ‘quarterback Dwayne Cook completed just one pass — a 76-yard touchdown.
Monroe County (4-1) steps up competition on Friday when it hosts Warren East. The 2A Falcons, who are coming off a 27-0 win over Campbellsville in Week 5, shutout Barren County 43-0 the week prior. Against Campbellsville, quarterback Ty Mink threw for 150 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 134 yards and two TDs.
Monroe County leads the all-time series (dating back to 1986) 11-8 over Warren East. The Falcons won last season’s meeting, 33-27, at home.
