Week 10 in Football

The Central Hardin Bruins may have celebrated their first win over North Hardin in four years, but it may have been bigger than that. After the Nightmarish year they had in 2020, a District clinching win over the Trojans was a sign that they had evidently overcame the hangover of a loss to Barren County and played their best defensive game of the season against a quality opponent. After a 14-14 tie at halftime, Central Hardin had to overcome a opening kickoff gaffe and a fumble on their first possession to start the third quarter to take the lead and finally hold North Hardin on their last offensive possession of the game to pull out a 26-21 win. Zak Spurrier completed just three passes for 86-yards, but his first down pass on their next to last offensive push was the difference. Carter Robinson caught two of those throws, but the last put the Bruins in position to score their last touchdown. Spurrier’s quarterback keeper was part of a 401-rushing output that kept the Trojans Defense off balance throughout the game.

With the win, Central Hardin is in the driver’s seat and will have the top seed and home field advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Elizabethtown tried to stay as close to the unbeaten Bardstown Tigers as they could with their 47-27 win over LaRue County. The Panthers had nearly 500-total offense with Ryder Gregory throwing for 199-yards and two touchdowns and Trey Durbin ran for 162-yards and two touchdowns as well. Tyrin Jurnette caught two of Gregory’s passes for 110-yards and two scores. It did overshadow a great performance by Hawk passer Cutter Boley, who threw for 256-yards and score while Conlee Crossno ran for 118-yards and two touchdowns. The loss snapped LaRue County’s two game winning streak. Elizabethtown has rebounded well with their second straight win after a late loss to Ashland Blazer.

Meanwhile, Bardstown continued to roll towards their first unbeaten regular season since 2006 (under coach Joey Downs) and they used their week to beat Fairdale, 44-7. Brady Clark was 7-for-11 and 205-yards and 3-TDs and Tylee Williams ran for 103-yards and 3-TDs.

After starting 0-6 and being outscored 19-234, Breckinridge County won their third straight game and this time it was Ohio County who took the fall, 47-27. Running backs Michael Johnson and Kiyren Watkins ran for a combined 320-yards  and 4-touchdowns.
