With every team in the area getting ready for the second season in football there were a few that were playing out the season and there were a few loose ends to tie together as well.
Bardstown finished up their first undefeated regular season (10-0) with a 45-20 win over East Jessamine. Once again, the Tiger offense was balanced with 127-yards rushing and 210 passing yards. Quarterback Brady Clark passed for three touchdowns and his 100th career (score) breaking the school record, while going 21-of-27 passing. T J Greenwell ran for 86-yards and a score as well. The Tigers are the highest scoring offense in Class 3-A (averaging 45.7 points a game) and are still the only Class 3 A team unbeaten. It was the first 10-0 start for the Tigers since 2006.
Sayre beat Bethlehem on a rainy night and Eagle quarterback Cooper Stone struggled through the air with a 4-for-12 passing night. Bethlehem’s running game struggled as well gaining only 127-yards.
It was a tough night for Nelson County as well as they dropped a tough loss to North Oldham 14-12. Paul Briney ran for both Cardinal scores, but Nelson County failed on a PAT and a two point conversion. The Mustangs finally went ahead late in the fourth quarter after trailing 12-7 and the big play was a fake punt as they converted and eventually scored the winning touchdown.
Thomas Nelson got a well deserved win over Warren Central thanks to a great defensive effort by the Generals, 9-0. Ethan Crider and Chase Girdley intercepted passes and recorded a safety along with a touchdown by Braden Smith late in the fourth quarter. Smith finished with 126-yards rushing yards.
John Hardin finished out the regular season with a 45-6 win over Meade County. The Bulldogs built a 24-0 lead late in the third quarter on a fumble recovery for a score by Andrew Carson, a 34-yard run by Carson, a 3-yard run by Keyandre Strand and a 30-yard field goal by Jake Owens.
Elizabethtown fell behind early and simply was unable to answer the bell against visiting Owensboro Catholic in a 36-9 loss. The Aces were an offensive powerhouse building a 27-0 lead and never looked back.
Central Hardin was unable to build any momentum after their big win over North Hardin and traveled to South Oldham and lost 26-6. The Dragons built a 14-0 halftime lead and added on with another score to make it 20-0 until the Bruins finally answered with their only score.
North Hardin, also ended the regular season with a 22-7 loss to Ballard at home to end the season on a low note.
LaRue County finished strong with a win over Russell County thanks to a combined 242-yards rushing by Conlee Crossno and Kellen Bowen in a 44-14 victory.
