Week 2 area football previews

Week 1 was quite an eventual one across the high school football landscape – and the action should continue to heat up entering Week 2.

With nine local games on the slate, let’s take a look at each matchup:

 

Bowling Green (1-0) vs. Pleasure Ridge Park (1-0)

Breakdown: Bowling Green and PRP have met twice all-time, with the Panthers winning both matchups … The Purples opened their season – and the Mark Spader era – with a 20-13 win over Central Hardin last Saturday in the Rafferty’s Bowl … Bowling Green junior RB DeVito Tisdale had 20 carries for 146 yards last week … Senior QB Beau Buchanan threw for 241 yards … PRP defeated Valley 37-6 last Friday … RB Aaron Kinnebrew rushed for 141 yards and two TDs, while QB Maurice Sodja passed for 222 yards and a pair of TDs.

 

South Warren (1-0) vs. Warren Central (0-1)

Breakdown: South Warren has won all three meetings against Warren Central … The Spartans and Dragons meet for the second straight season in the Citizens First Bowl at WKU’s Houchens-Smith Stadium … South Warren is 4-2 in games played at WKU, while Warren Central is 4-4 at since 1998 … The Spartans won 49-17 at Hopkinsville last week … WKU commit Clayton Bush scored four TDs – two defensive – in the win … Senior QB Gavin Spurrier passed for 170 yards and a TD … The Dragons have lost 25 consecutive games and fell 28-6 at Greenwood last week.

 

Warren East (0-1) vs. Greenwood (1-0)

Breakdown: Greenwood is 7-5 against Warren East since 1998 … The Gators and Raiders meet in the nightcap of the second annual Citizens First Bowl at Houchens-Smith Stadium … Greenwood won 28-6 against Warren Central last week … Gators’ senior RB Triston Wilson ran for 122 yards and three TDs … Warren East fell 28-14 at Portland, Tenn. last week … Raiders’ sophomore QB Nolan Ford threw for 171 yards and two TDs.

 

Barren County (0-1) vs. Allen County-Scottsville (1-0)

Breakdown: Barren County and Allen County-Scottsville meet for the fourth consecutive season … ACS has won four out of the last five games against Barren Co. … The Patriots defeated Adair County 45-18 last Saturday at Campbellsville University … The Trojans fell 40-0 at home to Casey County last week.

 

Franklin-Simpson (1-0) vs. Monroe County (0-1)

Breakdown: Franklin-Simpson has dropped just one game to Monroe County dating back to 2009 … The Wildcats opened their season with a 44-20 win at Elizabethtown last week … Franklin-Simpson RBs Tre Bass and Carlos McKinney each ran for over 200 yards in the victory … Monroe County lost 34-20 last week to Trigg County after allowing 34 unanswered points.

 

Glasgow (1-0) vs. Bardstown (1-0)

Breakdown: Glasgow defeated Bardstown 48-9 last season in the first meeting between the two sides since 2012 … The Scotties have won the last four games against Bardstown, and the all-time series is knotted at 5-5 … Glasgow defeated Russellville 51-0 in the Scottie Bowl last week … Scotties’ QB Tanner Abernathy threw for 157 yards and three TDs, while WR Jaden Franklin finished with 80 yards and three TDs … Bardstown won 38-0 against Spencer County last week.

 

Logan County (1-0) at Muhlenberg County (0-1)

Last meeting: Logan County won 36-18 on Aug. 25, 2017

Breakdown: Logan County won its first-ever meeting against Muhlenberg County last season … The Cougars opened their season with a 57-0 win last week against Butler County … Logan County QB Tyler Ezell passed for 203 yards and two TDs, while rushing for 65 yards and another pair of TDs … Muhlenberg County lost 47-12 at home to Apollo in Week 1.

 

Russellville (0-1) at Fort Campbell (0-1)

Fort Campbell Stadium

Last meeting: Russellville won 20-6 on Aug. 25, 2017

Breakdown: Russellville has won five straight against Fort Campbell and leads the series 8-2 since 1998 … The Panthers lost 51-0 at Glasgow last week in their season opener … Fort Campbell dropped a 34-12 decision last week at Marshall County.

 

Edmonson County (1-0) at Butler County (0-1)
