Week 4 area football previews

Believe it or not, Week 4 of the Kentucky high school football season is already upon us.

With eight area games on the Friday night slate, let’s take a look at each matchup:

Franklin-Simpson (2-1) at Greenwood (1-2)

7 p.m. Friday

Greenwood High School – “The Swamp”

Last meeting: Franklin-Simpson won 63-6 on Sept. 8, 2017

Breakdown: Franklin-Simpson leads the series 8-5 since 1998 and has won the past two meetings against Greenwood … The Gators have lost two straight to Warren East (47-30) and Allen County-Scottsville (27-7) … Franklin-Simpson fell 36-14 to South Warren last week … Wildcats running backs Tre Bass and Carlos McKinney were limited to 73 yards and two touchdowns against the Spartans …

Central Hardin (1-2) at South Warren (3-0)

Breakdown: South Warren has won three straight meetings against Central Hardin … The Spartans enter Week 4 with a perfect 3-0 record after winning 36-14 at Franklin-Simpson last week … Central Hardin lost 49-21 at Christian Academy-Louisville last Friday … The Bruins were held to just 133 yards of offense in the loss … South Warren quarterback Gavin Spurrier completed 10-of-16 passes for 171 yards and three TDs in the win … RB Cameron Harrison finished with 59 yards and two TDs on the receiving end.

Edmonson County (2-1) at Warren East (1-2)

John Hardin (1-2) at Warren Central (0-3)

Breakdown: Warren Central has lost the past three meetings against John Hardin … The Dragons look to snap a 27-game losing streak … The Bulldogs lost 20-18 at Daviess County last week … Warren Central dropped a 20-14 decision last Friday at Monroe County … Dragons QB Xavier Ingram threw for 112 yards and a TD.

Bowling Green (3-0) at Owensboro (2-1)

Breakdown: Glasgow has won five of the last seven meetings against Allen County-Scottsville, but the Patriots earned a 39-35 shootout victory in 2017 … The Scotties are 3-0 for the third consecutive season, while the Patriots are 3-0 for the second straight year … Glasgow won 37-0 last week against Fort Campbell … ACS took a 27-7 win over Greenwood last week … Scotties RB Nick Mitchell has rushed for 334 yards and five TDs this season … Patriots RB Kelly Weger is averaging two TDs per game.

Russellville (2-1) at Logan County (3-0)

Monroe County (1-2) at Barren County (0-3)

Breakdown: Monroe County has won eight of the last 11 meetings against Barren County, including a 43-0 win in 2017 … The Falcons defeated Warren Central 20-14 last week for their first win of the season … The Trojans suffered a 20-19 loss at Adair County last week for their fifth straight loss … Monroe County RB Landon Stinson ran for 87 yards and a TD … Barren County QB Zach Johnson threw for 194 yards and three TDs last week.
