Week 5 of Football

Brent Thompson believes in tests. Real tough ones. A quick look at his Trojans football team schedule would give you that impression. Starting out with powerful Bowling Green, then a later home date with Dupont Manuel and this week with Boyle County on the road. With a chance last Friday to go over .500 for the first time this season, North Hardin didn’t take anything for granted against struggling John Hardin. Big Blue opened up with a 80-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Thorpe to Shaun Boykins on the first play of the game. The Trojans weren’t finished. They scored five more times in the first half building a 40-0 halftime lead and tilting the game towards it’s quick end (with the mandatory running clock in effect). Thorpe threw two more scoring passes (to Shaun Rose and Boykins) completing 5-of-9 for 178-yards and three scores. Running back Kye Boyd finished with 111-yards in just 12-carries and three scores and the defense did the rest as North Hardin began subbing in the second half in a 40-14 Trojan win.

For North Hardin, it was a step forward. Meanwhile, Central Hardin took a trip to Henderson County and came away with their first loss of the season, 38-22. The Bruins rushed for 238-yards and quarterback Zack Spurrier scored two of Central Hardin’s touchdowns on the ground, but Henderson County piled up over 400-yards total offense and scored six times (three on the ground and three in the air).

Meanwhile, Bardstown continued their winning ways with a 32-14 win over Spencer County highlighted by 162-yards rushing by Tyleeq Williams and his three touchdown runs. He also caught 135-yards of passes from Brayden Clark. Williams got the start in the backfield after TJ Greenwell was held out after an injury the previous week against Elizabethtown. Still, the Tiger scoring machine continued and the defense stood tall and held Spencer County to just 14-points and 216-yards offense. It was the second straight week Bardstown took on an unbeaten opponent and both times came out on top.

Bethlehem also had a winning night with a 58-6 win over Western Hills, thanks to a marvelous effort by Zane Wickliffe (106-yards and three touchdowns) and Cooper Stone had 175-yards through the air and four touchdowns as the Eagles are 4-1. Bethlehem built a 28-0 lead after the first and just controlled the game the rest of the way.

Elizabethtown welcomed back quarterback Ryder Gregory under center and the Panthers got back to winning with a 42-14 win over Nelson County. Elizabethtown built a 35-0 halftime lead and let the defense do the rest as Nelson County was held to 203-yards offense.
