Week Five in Football

                                                                         Week Five in Football

It REALLY seemed like a long time when Meade County was a major power player in 6-A football and was just maybe an official’s blown call away from a possible State Football Championship, but after a blowout loss to Simon Kenton in week one, the Green Wave have began to look like that team after their fourth straight win. This time it was in a dramatic come from behind win over Franklin-Simpson. On a night in which the head coach Larry Mofield had his quarterback throw the ball 19-times (completing nine for 136-yards), Meade County staged a big offensive drive which culminated with quarterback Zane Power’s touchdown pass to running back Zackh Babb with 1:56 remaining that put them up 24-21. Franklin-Simpson’s attempted game tying field goal as time expired was missed in a back and forth affair. It appears the Green Wave, which Mofield had said before could be on the way back at the beginning of the season may be right there already.

Elizabethtown found their winning ways with a runaway win over Thomas Nelson last week. In a game in which the Panthers scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and simply put the game away early getting scores from five different players and rushed for 352-yards getting 172 from Donovan Husky and two long distance runs in the 42-7 win.

Central Hardin rebounded from their second straight loss to beat John Hardin in a 27-12 win to break that streak. In a game which resembled a rock fight between the two physical combatants, the Bruins rushed for 295-yards and four touchdowns getting a big lift from quarterback Jacob Hobbs who had two of them. One was a 51-sprint around left end to clinch the win. The loss snapped the Bulldogs two game win streak.

Meanwhile, LaRue County continued to win and are currently 5-0 after a 54-13 win over Hart County. Travis Allardice’s  75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown started the blowout as the Hawks built a 38-6 halftime lead and didn’t stop until they were safely ahead 54-6 after three quarters. Josh Jaggers team have the look of a winner.

Game to Watch: John Hardin @ Meade County : At one time one of the premier games in the area and with Meade County soaring and John Hardin coming off a stinging loss it should still be one of the better games. It’s not hard to figure out what the two teams LOVE to do offensively and that’s RUN which means plenty of Steven Livers and Zach Babb.
