Week Five in Football

The Central Hardin bruins have been one of the best stories of the new season and after their muscle flex against John Hardin, it looked like their week five meeting against Henderson County would be another example of their power running philosophy as they moved towards an undefeated record before starting District play. Unfortunately, the Colonels had other ideas. A 7-0 halftime deficit became a 28-0 hole to dig out of as Central Hardin, who had played a pretty clean second half against the Bulldogs the previous week in the second half did totally the opposite against Henderson County. Zak Spurrier threw a pick-six to give the Colonels their score and then Henderson County found the end zone three more times in the third and after Central Hardin finally got on the board, the Colonels answered again to make the final score, 34-6. Head coach Tim Mattingly’s team will try to get back on the winning track when they face Fern Creek at home Friday.

North Hardin continued their September Swoon after the John Hardin game had to be cancelled, coach Brent Thompson scrambled to find another opponent and a long road trip to Danville seemed to be the answer, but a possible game tying field goal sailed wide of the goalposts and the Trojans dropped their third straight game and currently sit at 1-4 after going undefeated the last two regular seasons. The good news was that North Hardin did move the ball well most of the time and look like they are showing improvement, but with a home game with powerful Boyle County this Friday, it may not be enough.

Fort Knox looks like they are improving and after a 40-0 win over Fort Campbell in the Army Bowl, look to continue that success. Coach Wes Arnold’s team has now beaten Fort Campbell twice in three years and the Eagles started fast building a 28-0 halftime lead mainly on two quick touchdowns. Tristin Griffin took the opening kickoff 55-yards for a touchdown and then Griffin intercepted a pass and went 50-yards for another touchdown all within a minute of the start of the first quarter. The Eagles are 2-3 and will travel to Campbellsville to make it two straight wins.

Elizabethtown had dropped three straight games and were desperate for a win. Fortunately a trip to Nelson County was on the schedule and the Panthers responded with a 35-7 win built on a strong running game which picked up 392-yards and three touchdowns. Trey Durbin had 167-yards rushing and a 50-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, while Ryder Gregory had 79-yards running and 201-yards passing and two touchdowns passing in the win. Next up are the Thomas Nelson Generals.
