The Week in Football – Week Seven
It was a week of upsets and blowouts and teams that want to stay hot but could not. Once again there is proof that if you want to win you need to “Run to Daylight!” Central Hardin found that out against visiting Southwestern and their coach Larry French as the Warriors pounded out 291-yards on the ground and built a 27-0 lead in the first half. The Bruins were not to be outdone and ran for 240 themselves, but were unable to get in the end zone as many times as Southwestern won, 34-21.
Elizabethtown continued their winning ways against District rival Hart County and in a game which saw a running clock during the second half, the Panthers pounded out 231-yards running most of which came from senior runner Donavon Huskey, who scored twice and ran for 110-yards in just six attempts. Meanwhile, senior quarterback Tyler Durbin helped balance the offensive books with 184-yards passing on just eight completions and two touchdowns in the 61-7 win over the Raiders. 
The Panthers are not the only hot team in the area as LaRue County continued their dominance during a surprising season. In a game which was practically over at halftime, the Hawks ran for 182-yards while being paced by Bryson Cobb’s 70-yards in just four rushing attempts and a touchdown. Running back Anthony Atkins had 60-yards running and scored three times in the 40-0 demolition on Bethlehem. The Hawks defense, which has been overlooked, but has been very effective allowed the Eagles just 69-yards total offense. LaRue County is looking forward to their BIG upcoming matchup against Elizabethtown on October 13th.
Just when they thought their problems were over, John Hardin traveled to Warrior Field to play Louisville Western and quickly discovered their problems were just beginning as they trailed 29-0 two quarters and a half as the Warriors rushed for 293-yards and five touchdowns in a 49-13 win over the Bulldogs. John Hardin did get a great performance by quarterback John Russell, who completed eight passes for 153-yards and two touchdowns, but what really hurt the Bulldogs in the end was the inability to run the ball. John Hardin finished with -14 yards and lost four fumbles to compound their misery. The Bulldogs must get things fixed quickly as they face Louisville Valley next in District action.
North Hardin knows the feeling as they have faced a murders row of opponents this season and their record shows. the latest was a road trip to DeSales to play the 2-A powerhouse and the Trojans were overwhelmed in a 42-0 loss. the Colts scored all their points in the first two quarters as six different players scored touchdowns in the win while the Colts offense showed a balanced attack with 178-yards running and 171 passing. Meanwhile, the Trojans were unable to get much done with just 50-yards total offense.
Finally, Christian Academy of Louisville finished their tour of the 5th Region. After playing Elizabethtown and Central Hardin (all Centurion wins), CAL traveled to Brandenburg and came away with a 26-7 win over Meade County. A couple touchdowns from Milton Wright helped finalize the win. It didn’t help that Meade County’s Zane Powers was unable to play at quarterback because of an injury ( concussion).
Game To Watch – Meade County @ North Hardin : This has been an interesting matchup the past three seasons as both are District rivals with the Trojans winning the last two times. The Green Wave love to run the ball with Powers and Zach Babb, while the Trojans like a more balanced attack. Eric Moore must have a big game for North Hardin to win as Meade County will most likely clog things up at the line. North Hardin will most likely do the same if Powers is still unable to go this Friday as a win by either team will help decide who has a home playoff game in October.
