Week Seven in Football

What looked like the premier matchup of the week started to look like an opportunity for revenge in a double dose for Elizabethtown as their game with Ashland Blazer started to look like a runaway in the worse sense. A game originally scheduled for a Saturday afternoon kickoff was eventually moved to Friday night and even though neither team looked like the ones we saw last year in the Class 3-A Final, it should still be entertaining. However, Elizabethtown looked ready to play as they jumped out to a 21-0 lead before Ashland Blazer finally responded. Just like that, things changed quickly again and both teams saw themselves tied at 21-21, but touchdown pass by Ryder Gregory to Carter Moberly put the Panthers up 28-21 with 7:00 left. Then lightning struck again when the Tomcats took the ensuing kickoff for the game tying touchdown. Ashland Blazer then intercepted a  Gregory pass and drove to the game winner on an 18-yard scoring run by Palladino with 4:16 left. It looked like Elizabethtown would retie the game and send it to overtime as they drove to the Tomcat 20, but a third down sack on Gregory forced backup passer Greyson Hainer, who’s fourth down pass was dropped in the end zone.

While Elizabethtown fell, North Hardin finally regained their footing with a big 41-14 win over District rival Meade County. It was the first win for the Trojans since their week two win over DeSales over a month ago and this one was spurred by the passing of Manie Wimberly (he threw for three scoring passes) and the running of Kye Boyd, who ran for 40-yard and a 57-yard touchdown runs. Along with the defense which stepped up and held the Green Wave scoreless until the fourth quarter, North Hardin will look forward to a well awaited bye week and then a return to District play with Barren County and Central Hardin, who found the going on the road unpleasant with a loss to Barren County.

The Bruins, who lost to the Trojans last season in the final seconds dropped their second straight game to them in two seasons. Despite a 8-0 lead thanks to a pick six by Nolan Goodman late in the third quarter, Barren County responded to tie it up and then when the Bruins retook the lead on a touchdown by Zack Spurrier, the Trojans retook the lead with 00:36 left and the successful PAT put them up to stay 15-14.

And after five straight weeks of disappointment, Breckinridge County finally gets in the win column with a 15-13 win over Grayson County thanks to Kiyren Waykins two touchdown passes.
