The Bardstown Tigers may be making a claim for the BEST team in the area with a 40-26 win over LaRue County last Friday to stay unbeaten at 6-0. Coach David Clark’s team has looked effective all season long averaging over 30-points a game offensively and the defense was been only allowing just two touchdowns a game. Until last week’s game against the Hawks, Bardstown has been lights out. The Tigers were once again a model of consistency getting ahead early and just using the defense to dictate. Brayden Clark was 13-of-16 passing for 157-yards and a touchdown while the running game produced 252-yards, mostly Tyleeq William’s 167-yards rushing for three scores and Clark’s 42-yards and two touchdowns. Shannon Tonge pulled down seven of Clark’s throws for 129-yards. Meanwhile, the defense had three sacks and two interceptions. Bardstown will try to continue their streak with a home game against Nelson County.
The Cardinals will able to accomplish something last Friday night with a 45-22 win over Caverna. By pulling off the win at home, Nelson County was able to finish up the month of September with a winning record for the first time since 2013 when the coach was Jamie Egli, which may explain the great job Phillip Stockdale has done rebuilding this team from the ground up. The Cardinals had the game on a running clock by the second half (a nice change for a team struggling to win a single game at one point several seasons ago).
Meanwhile, Bethlehem continued their winning ways with a 58-6 win over Western Hills. Since losing their opener to Providence, IN, the Eagles have averaged nearly 30-points a game and haven’t lost since. This was another game that got out of control quickly thanks to 175-yards passing from quarterback Cooper Stone and his 4-touchdown passes and 106-yards rushing from Zane Wickliffe and two scores. Justin Popovich and Will Ray pulled down six of those passes for over 150-yards combined and two scores.
Elizabethtown continues to roll, this time in another District matchup with Thomas Nelson. The Panthers rolled up a 35-0 lead early in the first half and simply ball controlled the game away. The 42-0 win was highlighted by three touchdown passes by Elizabethtown quarterback Ryder Gregory and 128-yards rushing by Trey Durbin. While the Generals remain winless, Elizabethtown stands at 5-1and will look to add on to it with a long road trip on Saturday at Ashland Blazer.
