Week Two in Area Football

Doug Preston said this would be a transition year for the John Hardin Bulldogs and he was definitely right. After the Glasgow loss in Week One, the Bulldogs welcomed Bardstown for Week Two action and things looked pretty good at first after breaking off a long run on the games first possession, the Bulldogs had the ball in the red zone. However, a successful field goal attempt was taken off the board after a Tiger penalty gave John Hardin a new set of downs and then a fumble ended the threat. Bardstown then took command and scored on nearly every possession in the first half (thanks to three John Hardin turnovers) and were up 37-0 at the half. Brayden Clark threw for 160-yards and two touchdowns; TJ Greenwell ran for 156-yards and 2-TDs and Tyleeq Williams had 103-yards and 2-scores while the defense held the Bulldogs to 85-yards total offense. For the Tigers, Marion County is next and for John Hardin, a trip to Elizabethtown for another tough road game.

Last week, the Panthers were adjusting to the loss of starting quarterback Greyson Hainer with Ryder Gregory (who was the starter last season) and Elizabethtown ran up 308-yards rushing against Meade County in a 35-14 win. Trey Durbin had 146-yards on the ground and Jujuan Williams scored twice in Elizabethtown’s second win of the season.

After Week One’s ugly 43-8 loss to Woodford County, LaRue County traveled to Taylor County and got involved in a wild 48-45 scoring fest with the Cardinals. Conlee Crossno had plenty of fun throwing for nearly 300-yards and 4-touchdown passes, while Daniel Allen and Tom Shelton had combined six catches for over 200-yards and three touchdowns and Brandon Hollis ran for 104-yards and two scores in a wild win. The LaRue County victory offset 210-yards running by Taylor County’s Peyton Smith.

Central Hardin has averaged nearly 40-points in their two wins and after last Friday night’s 37-0 win over Butler looked like they are ready for another successful season. The Bruins offense piled up over 230-yards while the defense allowed just 20-total yards by the Bears.

North Hardin got their first win rebounding from the previous week’s tough loss to Bowling Green with a 45-6 win over DeSales behind nearly 400-total yards on offense. Senior Jayden Thorpe looked more comfortable in week two throwing for 192-yards and three touchdowns and running touchdowns by Kye Boyd and Thorpe.
