With less than a month to go in the regular season schedule, there are several teams that look good and maybe we might have an early favorite as well.
Taylor County (17-1)- A full season removed from their Region Championship, it appears Taylor County could be an early favorite as they look strong with only a loss to Paducah Tilghman to blemish their record. The Cardinals have won 17-games and have scored 10-or more runs in eleven of those games. A solid pitching staff led by Hayden Jones (6-wins) and Ryan Grubbs (5-wins). Jones is currently the Cardinals best hitter batting .633, but there are eight Cards who are have double digit hits this season. If coach Jeff Gumm can keep it up this could be a repeat season for Taylor County.
Bardstown Tigers (13-7) – Coach Glen Koger has a good team led by seniors Brady Clark and Will Koger, who currently lead the Tigers in batting (Clark 24-hits / 27-RBI’s Koger 22-hits/13-RBI’s/29-stolen bases). However, Bardstown is not just a two man team and with Jay Curtsinger (3-2 record) and Brody Harmon (2-1 record) along with Gray Clark, Dontraye Tinnell and Ja Markiss Calbert the Tigers currently led the 19th District.
Green County Dragons (12-4)- This could be one of coach Ricky Davis’ most talented teams and led by pitchers Kellen Whitlow (3-2 record), Jackson Johnson (3-0 record 2-saves) and Caden Scantland (3-0 record), the Dragons have 3-guys who can throw it and the hitting is pretty good as well with Gunner Bush (.625 average / 25-hits /26-RBI’s), Jacob Keith and Blayde Milby who are having great seasons as well. Green County also has speed with 40-stolen bases.
LaRue County Hawks (12-7)- Head coach Kellen Lobb’s Hawks are trying to keep pace with the Dragons in the 18th District race and are led by Brooks Brackett, who leads the team in wins (4-wins) and in hitting with a .415 average / 22-hits / 16-RBI’s. Sean Rivera, Evan Morris and Caden Davis are close with six wins between them and Kaleb Graham is tied with a .415 average with Brackett and leads the way with 26-RBI’s.
Adair County Indians (12-6) –Ryan McQueary had done a great job with the Indians so far this season and they are getting great performances by Kaleb Keltner (4-1 record), Brayden Rainwater (2-1 record), Braxton Smith (2-1 record) and Braxton Coomer (2-0 record). Carson Jessie leads the team in batting average with .375, 24-hits and 13-RBI’s, while Smith leads the team in steals (15) and Coomer is batting .347.
Elizabethtown Panthers (11-7)- The Panthers have been on a roll winning 8-of-their-last-11 games and with several players back from a deep basketball run in the State tournament, they look even deeper. New head coach Chase Greenwell has a solid pitching staff in Austin Jennings (3-0 record), Caleb Adams (2-1 record) and Jacob Moberly (2-1 record), while Ryder Gregory has scored 25-runs, 20-hits and 28 stolen bases along with Caleb Adams and Eli Brown.
Central Hardin Bruins (7-9) –Despite a losing record, if any team might be headed in the right direction it could be the Bruins. Todd Thompson’s team is currently led by freshman Zak Spurrier, who is 3-1 and right behind him is Conner Partio with a 2-3 record. The Bruins currently lead the 17th District and the batting lineup has several players producing numbers in Carson Yates (21-hits/ 22-stolen bases), Lucas Lee, Ryan Bibb and Partio.
Bethlehem Eagles (9-7) – The Eagles are staying close to the Tigers in the 19th District and coach Roger Robinson has several players coming up with great seasons so far. Junior Carter Zutterman leads the team with a 4-1 record and Andrew Dawson isn’t far behind at 2-1. Ethan Winkler leads the team in batting average (.500) and has 26-hits and 24-RBI’s. Preston Hall-Pointer is close with a .408 average and 20-hits and 12-RBI’s.
Campbellsville Eagles (8-9) – The Eagles have been a pleasant surprise after a slow start have went 6-2 in their last eight games and have wins over Elizabethtown, Central Hardin and LaRue County. John Oberson currently leads the staff with 3-2 record and Levi Austin, Bryce Newton and Arren Hash are improving. Kameron Smith and Oberson are leading the way in the batting lineup.
North Hardin Trojans (7-10) – The record may indicate otherwise, but the Trojans are still a team to watch out for. Coach Ace Adcock has put together a squad that has stayed in contention with a lot of new faces in starting positions. Caleb Trotta and Reece Dowdell lead the team with 3-1 and 2-1 records and Seth Yates leads the team in batting average followed close behind by Trace Thomas, Zachary Henderson and Cooper Campbell.
