Wildcats Drop Halloween Matchup 26-6 To The Bears

It’s another Wildcat Football Friday Night. Tonight the Wildcats travelled to Morgantown to take on the 6-3 Butler County Bears. It’s Halloween, the temps are dropping, and the wind is whipping through the stadium at will, it’s spitting rain, sleet, and snow. Tonight these two border rivals will not only battle each other, but the elements as well.

Edmonson County received the ball to start the game. After moving the ball well against the much bigger Bear line, the drive stalled and the Wildcats were forced to punt.

The Wildcats defense definitely came to play, especially in the first half. Edmonson County brought pressure that seemingly had Butler County QB Rex Henderson a little rattled. The defense held the potent Bears offense to a three and out, and forced the punt.

The drive started out promising for the Wildcats, but a penalty dropped them back to the 25 yard line, and forced the punt. The snap went over punter Brett Brannon’s head, and rolled through the back of the endzone for a safety with 0.6 seconds left to go in the 1st period.

On the free kick after the safety, Edmonson County lost containment on the sideline, and Butler County’s Jake Martin took the ball 57 yards to the house. The extra point was no good.

At the end of the first quarter, Butler County lead 8-0.

The second quarter started out as another defensive battle. Both team’s defense making plays to stall drives. With 9:00 left to go in the second, Freshman Tucker Cole breaks a nice end around run for 44 yards putting the Wildcats first and goal from the Butler County 9 yard line. Two plays later, QB Jake Dial runs the ball in from 1 yard to put the Wildcats on the board. Two point conversion try was no good.

Wildcats trail 8-6 at the half. The Wildcats defense held the Bears offense to just 6 yards in the first half.

In the 3rd quarter after both offenses were finding moving the ball difficult in this weather, Jarod Hines comes up with a big interception at the Wildcat 9 yard line. Two plays later, Butler County lineman Jake Bratcher intercepted a screen pass and ran it back 9 yards for the touchdown. XP was no good. Butler County leads 14-6 with 6:13 left in the 3rd.

The Bears got on the board again in the 3rd when Rex Henderson connected with Drake Embry for a 65 yard screen pass for a touchdown. XP was no good. Butler County leads 20-6 to end the 3rd.

The only score of the 4th quarter came with 10:17 left in the game. Rex Henderson throws a touchdown pass to Caleb Deweese in the corner of the endzone. XP no good.

That would prove to be the winning margin as the Bears win 26-6 over the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will travel to Trigg County next Friday night for the 1st round of the playoffs.
