The YEAR in Pictures! Baseball
WHAT A YEAR IT WAS!!!!! Yes. There were the usual suspects involved like Central Hardin and Elizabethtown which had won the past seven 5th Region Championships, but this time there were several party crashers that invaded the tournament such as Bardstown which knocked off the Panthers in the first round of the tournament at Marion County behind the speed of Santrel Farmer. So with the reigning champion of the past three years gone it was Nelson County who knocked off the Bruins in the second round with a strong pitching game 6-1 and finally it was up to the Cardinals and the host team Marion County, who by the way beat the Tigers in the second round to be part of a Championship Final which did not include a 17th district team for the first time since 2003. There was no stopping the Knights, who beat Nelson County 10-0 in just 5 innings and made their first trip to the KHSAA State Tournament a truly MEMORABLE one winning not one, but two games before finally losing to Simon Kenton in the Final Four. It was still a GREAT year to be a Knight.
Marion County made their first trip to the KHSAA state tournament an unforgettable one.
North Hardin’s Justin Manley had a great junior season with a couple of wins over Elizabethtown.
Elizabethtown’s Paul Fiepke reached for a ground ball.
Derek Goode raced around third as LaRue County had a fast start.
Central Hardin’s success stood the test of time.
The Trojans showed that it would take more than a pitch in the side to slow them down.
